Updated Review: no more glitches, going up to 5 stars but still wishing for in-app notification of new whiteboard messages so you don't unknowingly ignore people.
Saves me money by letting me see when area stations are beginning to raise prices, which gives me time to fill up at one that hasn't gone up yet; when gas goes up >25 cents a gallon you save a lot by filling up at lower price! You also get points for updating gas prices that allow you to enter weekly drawings for a $250 gas card. Only two minor issues that cause me to rate it 4 stars not 5:
-Users can send each other messages (write on users' whiteboards) on the website, but the app doesn't let you know you have new messages. If you just use the app and don't log in to the website routinely you don't know you have new messages. -There's a daily max of 750 points for updating gas prices, and the next day seems to begin at midnight, but sometimes when I update gas prices shortly after midnight the points are no longer there the next morning. At first I thought it was my error, but I've noticed it happens every now and then and wonder if there's some type of server reset that supersedes users' time zones.
*App is updated regularly and I imagine they'll address these things in future versions. One update had a problem that caused me to contact support, and I was impressed by their timely response!

There's a ton of gas places on the way to and from Vegas, one place we stopped at wanted to charge us over $5 for gas, but we used this app and decided to hold off 'till the next station and got gas for a little over $3 there, this app also provides you with all of the information of the gas station such as the address, phone number, displays the location for you on the top on maps (I have an iPhone 5) and will also provide directions using your maps app, at the bottom it also includes other features of the gas station such as C-store, ATM, pay at pump.... You get the picture. Another thing I like about it that I didn't discover until I got home was that it also gives you the option to view the location or to upload a picture yourself, so that others may see it, being a girl it kinda helps me see what kind of area I'm heading into and helps me make a decision on if it's a place I'd like to stop at, so ads or no ads, this app is awesome regardless. When you use it please be sure to update the prices at locations you choose, even if it's still the same, it helps us all out, not like it's an issue or anything, all of the prices I saw were all updated by other users the same day I was there, or the day prior.

I downloaded this app while on a road trip to places I don't pass through on a regular basis. As such, unlike around home, where I tend to know where the best gas prices are, Gas Buddy helps to point me in the right direction, whether I use its GPS mapping or just type in the name of the city I will be in or which I'm approaching. It's also useful in my home area, too, as it's not uncommon for me to have to drive 20 miles or more to connect with different clients in my business and with the variations in gas taxes, from city to city and county to county, the savings for buying gas closer to one of my clients than near my home can amount to 25 - 30 cents, per gallon. If I know I am going to be needing gas, I tend to carry enough cash with me to be able to get gas - so whether Gas Buddy shows which gas stations except credit cards or not, is a moot point with me. Besides, these days, nearly EVERY gas station accepts credit cards - in my opinion, this is NOT an area where Gas Buddy needs improvement. Gas Buddy is a very useful app to have, if you regularly travel forty miles or more on a daily basis. I give it five stars for helping me find the best gas prices in any given area!

This app does everything it promises. The best thing about it is that the information displayed comes directly from people like you and me who report the gas prices we see as we are out and about. Therefore, prices are accurate and timely. Why is this important? Well, when was the last time you picked up the phone and called a local gas station to ask what his prices were? If you have ever tried to do this, then you know what a brick wall it is to even make such an effort. They simply will not tell you what their prices are. Gas Buddy breaks down that wall. It helps a budget-minded household or traveler to shop around for the lowest gas price in whatever area you happen to be in or wherever you plan to travel. It tells you all of the prices and shows you maps to help you get to any gas station you pick. Maps are integrated with your GPS maps to help you navigate to stations in unfamiliar areas. Or maybe you're just curious to see what gas is selling for in another part of the country. Gas Buddy will tell you. This is, without question, one of the absolutely best free apps out there. I use it every day. If you're not benefitting from Gas Buddy, then it's your own fault.

I love this app & use it frequently & have saved $2-10 a fill up - though $2-6 is average - a couple things u need to watch 1. How old is last reported price 2. Some prices are cash only & that can be an unpleasant surprise so if you are going a bit out of your way you can see if there are notes that tell you this. When I report I only report credit price in price areas for gas but put cash price in notes. Gas Buddy may want to look into adding something to tell us there is a different cash price. The main prices displayed should not require a cash purchase OR a car wash OR some kind of "savings" card so be careful out there when reporting prices. App is great but if going out of your way for 50 cents a gallon make sure by calling 1st & that with your car's gas mileage it's worth it!
They have updated this app to show cash & credit prices. Cash has a green rectangle in front of the price so now it is even easier to find cheapest gas but as always note how long the price has been posted so u have a better grasp on what u will see at the pump when u get there. Over 12 hours old & I would call 1st b4 going out of my way!

Great source for shopping the best price for anyone traveling! This is a Great Service. Anywhere, anytime Gas Buddy is a reliable traveling companion. I do wonder how it is on the Leaderboard feature that someone can be in 5 or 6 cities at the same time and produce nearly 5000 prices over a 30 or 31 day period. Home computer don't track the range that those of us that are actually out there giving real prices and experiencing the 3 mile range I experience. These members sit at home and just confirm everyone else's prices. There is something wrong with that and I think you would agree. The Commuter feature is geared only for those who work (ie: 9 - 5 jobs).There are those of us that work 3p- 11p jobs who report prices that can not acquire commuter points because of this. I have been a member/reporter for over 3 years. A loyal reporter as has my wife. A great app and source of shopping gas prices that has come a long way over the years. I love it except for these couple of little snags. I would love to see the home computer members unable to do what they are doing. Thanks for listening.

This app was recommended by a friend. I can see why he enjoys it. I live in one part of Phoenix and I work on the complete opposite side of town. I put a lot of miles on my car, so I use a lot of gas. Like everyone else, I'm always looking for a way to save a buck. I like being able to go on this regardless of where I am in town, and find out the cheapest gas around. And for me it's not just the cheapest gas. Sometimes when I know I'm going to run out of cash I buy gas gift cards ahead of time. This way I can check out which station has the least expensive gas for the card that I'm using. I also like the feature where I can update the prices if they have changed. And my favorite thing is just being able to compare. And I've discovered something about Phoenix. I'm sure everybody knows this, but Scottsdale has the most expensive gas. I live in Fountain Hills, which is even further out of Phoenix, and gas is about $.20 a gallon cheaper here. Of course, where I work in the West Valley, it's about $.20 a gallon cheaper than it is here. I am really glad I downloaded this app.

With gas prices spiking about a dollar in less than a week in and around the Los Angeles area, I got to thinking about a website I frequented back in 08/09...and it turns out they have an app...

I remember when gas buddy got started. They were still trying to build their database of stations through crowd sourced data. Meaning they asked their users to enter gas stations into their database.

Gone are those days of multiple station entries and they have an app that works really well. It lets you zero in on the cheapest gas near your GPS coordinates or a typed zipcode. Plus you can enter and conform prices on the go. I remember writing down gas prices getting to work and entering them into the PC. Boy is this easier.

I have even gotten the kids into the fray as they think it is a great game to enter data as I drive them on road trips. It really helps pass the time when you are overland driving.

I only wish you could track historical data for a station. I have seen the price rise 30c from a last night then 2 times the next day.

This is a must-have app for everyone that drives.. Report gas prices earn points...! it's that simple..!! Not only do you get to see where the cheapest gas is around you (saving you - your hard earned money) You will be earning points to enter towards entering a daily contest for free gas !!!! this is an awesome app..!!

I just read another reviewers comment & I was not aware that when you find those prices that are wrong that if you correct the gas price previously entered by actually pressing "price is wrong" that the person that entered that price would not get credit for it.. I have only been going in and correcting it by pressing the gas station information.. I will not be doing that from now on because there are those around me that do constantly enter wrong prices and I also think that this is wrong! This is a VERY useful app as long as everyone is using it the right way and not trying to cheat to gain rank or points.. This is wrong and those that constantly do this should be banned or warned first and then banned from using the app!

In a world today where everyone, for the most part, is trying to pinch pennies and save money wherever and whenever they can, apps like this one are not only truly helpful, but also easy to navigate. This app is great because it depends on people helping people, which unfortunately has become a rarity in our society. For the most part, I have found that the prices others post, beside myself, are accurate. So, I wanted to thank the creator of this app and those who take the time to post the correct prices to this app. It is of great help to someone like myself who is trying to make every penny count, especially because I am trying to complete my college education to become a Registered Nurse. But unfortunately due to financial woes, I have not had the privilege to finish my classes concurrently. But one thing I refuse to do is give up. Thanks to apps like this one in particular, I can definitely save more money. We all know that the price we pay at the pump can certainly put a dent in our pocketbooks!

One of the great features includes stations' ancillary services: find out who has an ATM, food, or restrooms, and where you can use your AMEX card or get basic mechanical services.
Additionally, I have to applaud compatibility with both Apple maps and Google maps for navigation to your selected station.
There are promotions associated with active participation in keeping the database updated but I have limited experience with these; they seem to be a nice little site bonuses but are not the reason for downloading this app.

Future improvements
Even though I don't use it, one thing I would add, based on popularity, is compatibility with Waze.
Also, adding in electric charging stations would be a good feature to maintain relevance across fuel platforms.

Stumbled on to this app. Really like it. Find it at 100% accurate and check it several times through out the day and watch the trends to fill my car up especially when Dillon's grocery store price goes down and can use my card and get .10 cents additional discount, otherwise I fill up at Sam's club. I think businesses use it too to adjust their prices and do price adjustments hourly from gas stations prices. I really like it and many ways to accumulate points to win $100 gas cards. Many ways to accumulate points. Very reliable and fun to play like a game and get real rewards. I haven't had any problems logging in or getting kicked off. The most reliable app I've dealt with unlike many others plagued with problems. Absolutely no problems or complaints. Love the rewards and advertisers other helpful savings apps that I've looked into. Highly recommend this app and pass on. Can't wait to use it while traveling to my out of town doctor appointments! Living in a large metroplex, this has often helped me save up to 10 cents a gallon, and using the distance & map features help me determine whether or not it's worth a drive slightly out of my way, or to discover a location I'd otherwise not know about. The same applies to out-of-town trips.

More recently, I have learned about "Top Tier" gas stations, and was very impressed, excited, and grateful to see that GasBuddy has a special green icon out to the right to indicate which stations they are. For those who don't know, it's a completely different mindset than just looking for the cheapest gas. Even though Top Tier costs more, the fuel is better and lasts a good deal longer--enough of a savings to exceed the "savings" of the cheaper gas.

Need a few changes to the app. Let's start with the "looks like you are driving right now" notification. An option, ability to select "don't show again button. Can't be responsible for someone that needs a strong dose of Clorox in their gene pool.

Ability to take points away from someone that reported incorrect prices, verified by a picture of the price at the pump, which could be verified by GPS location.

Ability to start out at "Favorites". Ability to combine travel route and location of stations that will be close to need to fill-up. Ability to know how much more fuel will cost in upcoming cities/state (help to decide whether or not to fill-up before next town), all was intended to help cut the cost of fuel.

PEOPLE: IF you stop and fill-up, it doesn't take but a few extra seconds to put all prices (mid-grade and super), we are all here to HELP each other and indicating all the prices does just that.

It's very helpful to find cheaper gas prices by just adjusting your route to your destination a little bit. It's also fun to earn points and enter the drawing for the $100 gas gift card everyday, someone has to win! I enjoy the articles and interacting with others as well. You can become "buddies" with others who participate in discussions. I enjoy saving money, learning new things, reading the opinions of others around the US and Canada, and most everything else about the GasBuddy App. and website. It's also nice that you can choose to be part of GasBuddy specific to where you live, but the App. shows stations closest to where you are when you are out, regardless of how far from home you are (at least in the US and Canada) and you can interact with others from the US and Canada on the website and be "buddies" with them. I've met some really nice people.

Competition, this app helps put downward pressure on gas prices putting more money in your pockets. Oil prices are dropping, but the price drop is always slow to reach the pump. I encourage everyone to download this app and then become proactive. Drive the extra mile to reward the business with the lowest prices and drive past expensive stations. The same with reporting prices, let everyone.

I gave this app five stars. The oversized ads are a little annoying, but not worth downgrading. This app, at minimum will save you money. The high cost of fuel takes so much out of so many people's income that it affects their standard of living. I hope everyone reading this review downloads and uses this app to help put downward pressure on the high price of fuel.

This is one of THE best apps I have on my phone! I've been using this app for 3 years 210 days. I know this because the app even tells me that kind of info!! I highly recommend this app to everybody! I personally have never had any issues with it. It's super helpful when I'm looking for the best prices near me when I need to fill up. I love when I'm able to update the price for a gas station too. I accidentally submitted a completely messed up price before, like instead of hitting the number 2, I accidentally hit 5 making the price of gas $5.35 Luckily, the app is so user friendly, that I was able to quickly click on that gas station and resubmit the correct price. One of the BEST apps I ever took the time to download! If you don't have it, do yourself a huge favor and download it now!

I have been using this app for over two years now, and I love it. How do you not love an app that tells you where the cheapest gas is? It works by user participation, so we are helping each other while earning points to buy tickets in the $100 gas card drawing. Win Win! Check this: One time we were in another state, in the middle of nowhere, when (of course) the gas light came on. We were driving for 20 minutes without seeing any signs of life, getting more nervous by the mile. I pulled up Gas Buddy and found the closest gas station, tapped a few keys to sync it up with the maps navigation program, and viola! I had a map with detailed directions to the nearest gas station. Thanks Gas Buddy, you helped us save our fuel injectors that day. Excellent, 5 star app !

This is the only gas price app I have used that let's me search gas prices for the grade I want or even diesel.

The most recent version only works on IOS 8 and above. Since it came out the old version keeps nagging me that my phone has an available update and I should upgrade.

I know my phone has an available update. Have known for years. This app reminding me isn't going to change my mind to upgrade to an os I don't want.

If it doesn't stop nagging me soon I will have to find a new app for my gas price searching needs.

The repeated nags with three or fours screens each time I launch the app is just TOO MUCH! I tried to update the price for a station that was showing no price information, but the nag screens were so numerous that I just gave up.

absolutely love GasBuddy - my friend told me about it around 3 months after I got my license so before I got my own car and paid for my own gas thank god!! people get annoyed with me for how dedicated I am to saving money!! once drove into NJ just for a half tank cuz it was 35¢ cheaper!! now there are a few things that could change about the app...
1.) probably a legal issue but who is gonna stop to report prices when you can more easily and efficiently either confirm or change them while on the roll??
2.) I have the app on my front page but by god the logo is hideous. change it up and make it look a little nice.
3.) add a little personalization, I don't really know or care how you'd do it just make it feel like an individual experience.
