This is a wonderful app that I have been using for years. A unique use that I have found is whenever I am reading and run into a word I haven't seen before I star it. Then later I review all the words I've stared. Good way to stay on top of new vocab.

Side note for the developers. It would be really cool if you either partnered with an app like quizzlet or did and in house flash card option. I think it would be a great way to increase the benefits users get from your product. If you would like more ideas for untapped opportunity for horizontal integration with other companies feel free to contact me.

I LOVE this app so much!! It has helped me look up so many words so many times and the definitions are so easy to understand! I love the medical, encyclopedia and science packs the most, they are a huge help in school!! I have never experienced any bugs or problems! A+ App hands down! The only thing that I wish would change would be the app icon! I wish the white border icon was for the free app and not for the premium app cause it doesn't fit any of my other home screen icon styles, like the default apple icons, they are all border less. But other than that knit-picky problem, I love the app!!

I don't know what I would do without my dictionary app. I notice myself accessing it daily when I hear a word that I haven't heard before my favorite thing about dictionary is when accessing it..tapping on the synonyms and viewing other words that can be used with the same meaning just spelt differently, I use that the most also another great feature is finding out where the word first originated from which is called the Learners..I also like the added extras that can be down loaded such as Medical, Grammar & Tips, Science, Idioms & Phrases which comes in very handy. "Dictionary" is my go-to electronic dictionary application. In my opinion, it is the most functional, and thoughtfully conceived application of its type for the smartphone. Very user-friendly, versatile and intelligently developed, a near perfect resource of knowledge. It offers a huge reference of what you need, forms, pronunciations, functions, etymologies, meanings, and syntactical and idiomatic uses. Included is a awesome source of synonyms and antonyms that I use daily. It's vast and in my opinion, the best.

I'm not sure when the below review was done, but it still applies. When I'm reading a book, and don't know the meaning of a word it's very frustrating when their dictionary does not have the definition of my word.
Go to dictionary app and the meaning is there. Way to go.

This app keeps getting better and better. They try really hard to keep the app fresh and fun. I like the extra dictionaries that have been added. The rhyming dictionary is neat but the best is the slang dictionary. It gives background about when a saying became popular and how the slang became slang.

I've been writing and teaching writing for more than 50 years and regret that this powerhouse was not available sooner. This is not just a dictionary, it's a plunge into the heart of the language. I was delighted when it was just a dictionary but the add-ons make it much more useful. I seldom use the add-ons, but when I do, I find them incredibly useful. I am anxious to support these developers in their work. These latest improvements make it even more intuitive. I can get lost in the app like others playing Halo. Thanks for keeping the language fascinating and inviting.

I love the app. I have the paid version. Only pain in the a22 is it keeps begging you to rate it even after paying. I know its a small thing though for an app that really delivers.

Update...I still love the app. It has more information than I could have imagined for less than a buck. As I mentioned before one you pay for it it keeps asking for a rating which I did. Even after writing the above quick review and rating it continues to ask for a rating. Its pretty annoying. With that being said I can't recommend this app enough, especially for writers.

Wonderfully concise application with useful add ons that make it the most powerful word usage device. An app that gives definitions, as well as relevant words for test preparation.

This word application does more than you could imagine. In the "Hot Word" you get some in depth background on the word but if one additional add on was an "Etymology Search"then it would be possible to expand ones vocabulary with an in depth understanding of where and how a given word came to be.

Next to search engines. this app is the most used app on my xOS systems.

It is the very best dictionary App you can have on your iPhone. It has a lot of great feature making it worth buying, but I'll skip to the the number ONE reason you should have this App - the MIC feature! You can just say the word and it looks it up for you. If you could spell it on the keyboard to look it up why would you need to look it up, more over why would you need a dictionary? The MIC is for those of us that can't spell yet we want to appear to our friends and colleagues that we can. If you can spell, pass this App up, else, GET IT!

Throughout my childhood I heard the words "Look it up." I must be enjoying my second childhood because this app is not only educational (learning is a lifelong process), it is very helpful! Thank you!! A great addition (or separate) app would be a phraseology dictionary/thesaurus - instead of "...you know what I mean, arrgh, there's this saying and I don't remember how it goes! It's kind of like ...". Or, thwarting that frustration, as a simple example, of: "What's another way to say 'Snug as a bug in a rug' that doesn't involve bugs?"

I have found that this app comes in so handy at so many different times! You ever start typing out a word and when you look at it, it just doesn't look right? You want to make sure it's correct, so you don't look like a big dummy, so you can turn to your Dictionary App to find out! How about finding a different word for "awesome" or "amazing?" I didn't even mind spending a little money for the upgrades--to me, it's fun to learn new things, and this app always has fun facts and such to broaden my language horizon!

I have bought the app and so have additional nice features with no ad. Very useful. The only recommendations I would suggest are: 1) some way to show that there are contents in the additional features like Examples, Medical, Encyclopedia…, so as to save us time clicking into it and find no content; 2) it will be nice to have an "easier" version of the Word of the Day. Words that are more popular or commonly used or from new trends. Something like "Word of the Day for ESL", which will be much more useful.

This is a great app for me. Although I have several graduate degrees, learning language, particularly developing expanded vocabulary skills was hard for me to capture and retain. When I read more complex books outside of my areas of expertise, I formerly used a hardback dictionary that frequently didn't have the meaning of a word; however, with this app, I always (except when I forget my phone and that is improving also) have the ability to expand my word knowledge. I am so glad that I invested in this app.

I have been using the free version if this app for years and loved it. I kept putting off purchasing the full version and I wish I'd done it sooner. I use this app every day and love the word of the day and slideshows. Looking up words is fast & easy, with suggested words appearing (helpful when I'm unsure of the spelling!) and the entry includes the word used in sentences. There are so many other cool features it is hard to list them all. If you are a logophile (a word lover!) you have to get this app.

This is one perfect app! I so appreciate this one. I especially appreciate the audible pronunciation of the words you look up, that is such an excellent feature because some words are hard for me to pronounce so with this feature you get the help you need. My Mom was my dictionary for years. My siblings and I would always call on her for spelling help or word definition help. She has since gone on to be with the Lord but with this app, it's like having her here again!! Great job and thank you much!

This app is everything I could need. The convenience is worth 5 stars. I find it so helpful. I love word of the day, I use this app all the time when writing. I recommend it highly if you want to build your vocabulary, or just have fun with new words. The thesaurus is fantastic, you can spice up your letters. Personally, it's great to have, I grew up with a sibling that received a PhD. from Harvard and I can use it to decipher his letters that I receive (LOL) from him. It's fun to use and easy to use.

This is my "go-to" app for everything words. I write in my own journal and have to check spellings, as with email to friends and especially businesses. Autocorrect tries but often subs words that are nowhere close to what you're attempting to write. The thesaurus is invaluable. I use this app with so many others And my daughter uses it at University for everything! Keep updating! The little games and snippets of information are so interesting I really look forward to new ones!

Not only is this app just a dictionary for the important purposes of learning the correct spelling and the meaning or definition of words; it also helps one build their vocabulary - their body of known words. This is done through the "Word of the Day" feature. Each day they feature a new word, its definition (meaning), a sample of its use in literature and its origins. You can choose to allow (or not) the push notification to get the Word of the Day to start your day in a clever way.

I believe this is one of the most important apps I have for reference. It assists me with vocabulary words to use, question and answer games, spelling, and definitions to out of the ordinary vernacular. I enjoy gaining knowledge through the articles it provides and further challenge myself, children and friends with reviewing the word of the day in game format to see if anyone knows the definition of the word of the day and can use it in conversation somewhere in their day. My favorite thing about it is the offline capability. That makes it very reliable and portable. I would highly suggest buying the add ons and then downloading it to your phone especially if you're a college student. It's extremely useful if you need a definition or word quickly on the spot.

Also I'm thankful that I can look up words that are used in a British English context. Some dictionaries stick strictly to American which makes reading some international books cumbersome.
