I really like having a dictionary close at hand, ready to whip it out of my pocket to discover a new word or confirm a pronunciation. I would have been willing to pay for it (maybe I did - it's been a long time since I got it). If you enjoy knowing what words mean, then this is the app for you. Occasionally, I hit the commercial lurking at the bottom of the screen, but it's very easy to find the little "x" to get rid of it. Lots of good stuff about this one - lots to like.

My favorite thing about this app is I can hear what a word sounds like when it's spoken. I'm an avid reader and have a large vocabulary, but I don't always know how the words are pronounced in conversation so I won't use them in conversation. Since getting this app (both the free one & then later the purchased one) I have learned how the words I've read and have known definitions to for years, actually sound. A regular dictionary doesn't have that. I love this app!

This is one of the most handy apps I have. I use it nearly every day. There is a lot to be said about misunderstood words, and whereas I may be lazy enough not to pull out a dictionary, it's easy to pull out my cell phone and look the word up on this app. It's also very quick,especially with word chains(where there may be a misunderstood word in the definition you're looking up). You merely tap that word,and you have the definition of it. Great for biblical studies.

This app is great. I have the upgrade so it includes example sentences and lots of other stuff that I haven't explored yet. Word of the day should help build my vocabulary which is the reason I downloaded the free version in the first place. I got tired of not completely understanding what I was reading because there was always a few words that I wasn't sure about. I highly recommend it, at least, the free version but the upgrade is definitely not a waste of money.

I mean, this app does give me a real big boost to the lexicon, but now I can only fit like 6 words into a tweet. I mean, how many letters does a word need?!

The features are nice, though. Like the saurus. And how they use words in sentences they find in John Grisham novels. And how it'll tell me how to say the word of the day so I can casually slip "consanguinity" into a conversation.

All in all, words are cool. But probably not as cool as Instagram. #anachronism

I love words, and this app makes words fun! C'mon, this is how we ultimately communicate. Express our feelings, our dreams to one another. I enjoy the the wealth of information in this app, but also the extra learning I can do. The publisher takes the time to help refine our understanding of often-misused words. I sometimes wander in a "learning fest" when I go to look up a word and find a new interesting topic on the home screen! Seriously worth every penny!

If you've ever taken a book with you on a stroll or a park for a moment of solitude and literary enjoyment, then you would understand the value of thorough dictionary readily available at the touch of a button. Extra work is never enjoyed when reading; however, when the need arises there is no better substitute.
Most used app on my phone after Instagram.
Add a picture tab to better describe certain objects such those encyclopedias of old.

Even the most erudite writer will occasionally need to verify spelling, or confirm the meaning of words or phrases. The Dictionary app is as close to perfection as you can get. It has a gargantuan number of words. The synonyms are a life saver when your memory has drawn a blank. It won't teach you grammar or polish your shoes, but it will keep you out of trouble at least 99 percent of the time. Do you know a better way to spend a few bucks? I don't.

I literally use the app almost every day. I read a lot of newspapers, magazines, research material, and more. It seems like writers these days like to use obscure words to show how smart they are. I'm an attorney that has practiced law for 25+ years and own my own law firm, so I'm no slouch when it comes to vocabulary. Nonetheless, the app comes in VERY handy. I did pay a few dollars for an upgraded version, but it was well worth the money.

The Dictionary app was one of the very first apps I put on my IPhone when I bought it. And today it I had to delete all but one of my apps, I would choose to keep my Dictionary app. I don't know if a day has gone by that I haven't use it. Sometime just to check myself. Sometime in desperate need and sometime just enlarging my vocabulary. Hi, my name is AnsGram and I am a Dictionary addict. Thank you for being an enabler for me.

This is an amazing app for writers of ANY genre. Lots of options and features. Love word of the day feature. I personally have one complaint or suggestion: if the user upgrades from the free app to a the premium version please combine the apps or have premium delete the free app. There is no reason for a fully upgraded app to carry around the free one. Aside from that, I completely love this best. It's essential. Well worth every penny.

This app is great for people who want to challenge themselves to learn and continuing learning every day. Set the notification for word of the day and you will be surprised on how you improve your vocabulary. Then, really challenge yourself, try and drop the word of the day into casual conversation each day. It is harder than you may think.
The app also has so many other cool features. Download it today and keep your mind mentally fit!

I have been using this app for about 4 months and love it! English is my second language and I will become more acquainted in the proper way of speaking and writing the English language.

Even the free version it contains an array of information on words. I often use it to find out definitions and synonyms of words.
I have upgrade my version and know the multitude of tools will only be even more helpful. Would recommend to everyone.

I was never good at spelling are grammar, This simple app has made it easier for me to find and save words that I most frequently misspell so that there on a favorites list. Once I have them on my favorite list it easily scroll to locate the work I am after, and the entire favorite list is backup to my iCloud account. All very done simple and trouble free. It's been one of the best apps I've use for years on and I have stuck with it.

This is the next best thing to "spell check" & totally better than Webster's Online! When I run into a word by which I am puzzled, I reach for this program. It has not only definitions but synonyms, antonyms, history of word and similar words (in case your spelling is really off) When I run across words of which I am unfamiliar, I "copy" the word and have begun my own dictionary of new words for me personally! GREAT TOOL!

I use this everyday for so many different reason's and it's never failed to provide the information I needed. This App is perfect for students to Grandma's, I completely feel like I stole the app, it's such a great deal for all the different assets. I've imbued you enough regarding how much I adore this App I'm sure your more than saturated with how much I love using this App. If it were possible I'd give it ten (10) stars!!!!!!!

Great app. Works like a key. It's never let me down and I've had this app for years. Exceeds my expectations for when it comes to having an entire dictionary in my pocket. Brings a broad vocabulary for synonymous. Has many perks, especially when you upgrade. Only thing I would change would be the ability to swipe left and right between words as if I were on a browser going between webpages. Regardless, everything else is great.

The Dictionary app is excellent. I use it daily, often several times. It contains definitions but also pronunciations, thesaurus, synonyms, etc in a convenient tab location. I enjoy the word history/groups which are fun and informative to read.

I have an iPh 6+ and use with zero problems. I purchased all available dictionaries as a one time small investment and no ads, which is my preference in an app I use frequently.

I find the use of this dictionary most excellent! I have, since my school days, been a poor speller. I may have had the measles and mumps when spelling was introduced. It is my pocket spell-check and I always miss it when my phone isn't with me. Words that are difficult to pronounce are enunciated correctly with this program helps me. I'd rate it higher if I could suffice it to say FIVE++ for now! A good bargain too.

This is THE best dictionary I have ever used, except for the OED, which is much more comprehensive in its definitions, but this dictionary is very handy and provides the appropriate amount of definition desired. One wants to get back to reading ASAP and not be flustered by a detailed definition. You can do that later. For the moment, it's enough to get the "gist" of the meaning to understand the gist of the text.
