Ooh do I get to say I hate Working Designs right here? OK, I hate Working Designs. I learned japanese because of this game and Working Designs. It's worth stating that the translation of this IOS port is nothing like as bawdy as WD translations, but it still comes with a little artistic license, sometimes to the point of where say, Nall might be replying in the japanese version, Luna will be replying in the translation. And different things are said. If you are able to read Japanese the simple act of setting your ios device to japanese will switch this game to the original dialog, as with many other japanese titles. The cutscenes will have to be set individually, but as of this latest update everything seems to work . 100% now. One other thing - it's far better to play this game on an iPhone than an ipad. The graphics look horrendously blocky on ipad, and using the filters looks awful too especially in landscape mode. If you have both devices, download it for your iPhone first.

Funny how this game's story holds up over a decade, while Kemco over 30+ ios/mobile releases still struggles with the fine points of story and character development. Though the dialogue and character attitudes are 90s style anime, growing up with it through my childhood it feels pleasantly nostalgic. Honestly I was a bit frustrated at to the battle system because there was not enough explanation and esp coming from being a Final Fantasy background it took awhile to get used to. But I'm glad I stuck it through the first hour and was addicted since then.

...Okay to clarify people saying there are glitches aren't getting used to the controls which are touchy being touch screen ..obviously and some other aspects which you will get used to right away... I'm running on the latest iOS on iPhone 6 so can't say for older phones or memory differences etc..But on to the review, Very awesome port ... I remember playing this game when I was 14 years old on my PSX ... Brings back memories of sitting in my room after school eating junk food and being glued to the game for hours lol. I did purchase the PSP version/remake of this game when it came out and wasn't that impressed ... Maybe because I'm stuck on the original and original voices and animation and everything ... But this is well done for sure!! Got me FF7 before I downloaded this and I've been glued to this one since ... Don't get me wrong I love FF too but Lunar ... Now they just need to port Eternal Blue ;)~ c

Edit: After the update it works better. It still crashed when I fought the last boss but when I opened the app again it sent me back to a little earlier in the battle, which was okay I guess. Like I said, PLEASE port Lunar 2. I'm begging you, it would be incredible.
This game is so amazing, I remember playing it years and years ago and how it was and has always been a favorite game of mine. However, I'm at the uhm... Since I don't want to spoil it for anyone, "last boss" and EVERY time I fight them IT CRASHES DX EVERY time. PLEASE fix that, I seriously can't even progress in the game until you do. 
But everyone else, please buy it. I promise, you won't regret it (and the crash I mentioned will be fixed soon, anyway). Best RPG on the app store, matched only its sequel Lunar 2: Eternal Blue. PLEASE PORT ETERNAL BLUE PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE I WOULD PAY ANY PRICE FOR IT 

It was a LONg wait, but worth it! The game has a great story, and the game play is solid old school RPG fun. A way better value than Final Fantasy Dimensions with hours of gameplay involved. Developers are also responsive for the few issues I found in the first release. Can wait to see what else they might release next. (Pick up Vay by Somoga too, it's also a great value.)

Update: Gets 5 stars for cloud saves! Just awesome if you have an iPhone and and iPad and seamlessly play between them. Why can't all games do this? Pay attention Square-Enix!

Update 2: wow, every update keeps addressing the minor annoyances I had previously (e.g. Subtitles now for the movie sequences). SoMoga obviously really cares and supports their products after launch. The big publishers like Square and Sega need to hire these guys to port the rest of their JRPG catalogs.

I never played the other version( sega or psone) so I decided to finally jump in and see what the fuzz is all about. To my surprise it is a very good game. Great story , deep turn based combat system gorgeous animated cut scenes.
I didn't have problems with the controls they're very intuitive . I Like the fact that you can touch and move or just touch and hold the virtual stick without having to change the settings. Portrait or landscape too just flip the phone and it shrinks half the screen and the dpad and buttons in the bottom .
Battles are challenging and really make you plan ahead your tactics . Another great feature is the option to save everywhere except during battles this makes it easy to start right before those hard bosses and change your tactics .
I must buy.

This game is a classic which stands the test of time. I am partial to the PSX voice acting, but it's not bad by any means. The graphics looks great thanks to the new overhaul it just had. The controls are simple and work fairly well, but there is still one thing that needs fixing -- getting stuck on corners while walking.

When pointing at a diagonal, if their is an object slightly in the way, the character will just stop. For example, pressing up and to the right should move you at a 45 degree angle. But if an object is above you instead if progressing right until it is cleared, your character stops moving entirely. In some tight spots this makes moving the characters around very difficult as every direction stops them from moving. Please fix this.

I love this game and it's so easy to love. I feel like I couldn't do without it since I'm so deep into it, now.

The storyline is sunny and unpretentious; a hard thing to find. It cares deeply about the characters in Lunar and developing them. Though quick in pace, it always seems to know just when to slow down to catch you up.

The artwork and animation are very cute and bright. A beauty focused in being inviting and comfortable. You want to spend time with the game.

The gameplay is fun and fair. The combat mode is not gratuitous and is often employed to teach you how to use a new skill or spell. You can avoid random battles by dodging the baddies on screen.

It puts a smile on my face thinking about it!

Although a phone is not the ideal way to play this game (seriously, go get the PSX version and its sequel), it translates pretty well.

There are a few basic flaws native to phone games, like less than stellar controls, but the game retains its charm and excellent localization by Working Designs. It is unfortunate that SoMoGa went with the PSP remake Silver Star Harmony's voice actors during the cutscenes, as I find the originals much more charming and fun, but that is in no way a dealbreaker.

If you are at all a fan of RPGs, or great writing and characterization in general, then you owe it to yourself to play the best RPG of all time (with Lunar 2 in a very close second place).

For those of us that were around when this game had just come out (and I mean the Sega cd version, not the PSX reboot), his was the game that hooked you into RPGs. Sadly nowadays the fun of games take a backseat to flashy graphics affirmative action run amuck. Hopefully someday the industry will get its act together again and look back on these days as the highlights of what not to do. And to the guys that brought lunar SSSC can we please get the sequel, Lunar: Eternal Blue? There are whole generations that are missing out on what games were meant to be and that didn't rely on in app purchases, and expansion add-ons as a crutch.

Hello App Store. I am Zhane Masaki of LUNAR-Net. I'm new to reviewing but an old fan of this game.

The game does have issues (save corruption comes to mind) but it's still the old LUNAR fans will love. The soundtrack is still outstanding (and if you don't know, Alex's Ocarina plays the in-game music). The new graphics are true to the original low res designs and all the humor is intact ( including references to Wheaties, Airplane! And more)

If you want an old-school treat, get this. And come visit LUNAR-Net for all the info you could ever need.

This game is outstanding with just a little minor bugs like randomly kick me out of the game and the joystick. Well, as you know I always wanted to own this game in iOS device, this reminds me I would love 100% if you could launch too lunar 2 eternal blue complete soon because I like RPG like this one. I rated this game 10/10 master piece. I hope you guys can bring more RPG most wanted like Lufia 1 and 2 it will be amazing!

This brings me back to when I was really young. Lunar silver story complete was the first RPG that I played. The only problems with this remake is the voice overs they are not so good and the controls are a little wired at first but you get the hang of them. Thank you for putting this game out. I hope to see this game sell well.

*update* the ability to play with a gamepad makes this tons better. I can hardly wait to see the next game this company turns out.

reminded me of the good old days. I'm glad all these classic turn based rpg's are making there way here. Would have given 4 stars if I didn't love this game so much as a kid only because the touch to move thing is annoying. I would have rather just had the simulated joystick. You get into battles on accident because you tap the screen and canceling the movement isn't easy. Overall. More than worth $7.

This was my favorite game on ps1 right beside final fantasy VII. If you've never played this gem you absolutely need to buy it! The best of old school jrpg's by far! Replaying this game on my iPhone/iPad is a wonderful experience. If you're a fan of jrpg's and haven't played this you owe it to yourself to buy this game. The story, music and anime cut scenes are incredibly charming. Cheers!

I admit I have the biggest nostalgia goggles for this game. But it's just so important to me. I played it when I was like 13, and I was stupid in love with one of the main characters. So happy to be able to play it again. There are differences in the gameplay and plot from the sega cd, so if you grew up on that, try this one. I can't give this enough stars.

Bought this to past time but ended up playing until my battery was dead the first day. Great jrpg.

One and only downside I found was you need to save often since the game has random crashes so you should save often. It's not a constant thing in my experience but it happens enough to were I save after lv ups and clearing areas. My current OS is 8.4

I have always been a fan of the Lunar Series. And when I saw it on the App Store I just had to get it. It's just a new version of the same game that it's been around since PlayStation one the PSX. But it is super fun clean and great game for kids as well as adults.I wholly I wholeheartedly recommend this game as to anyone that enjoys that nice RPG.

The touch conversion is well done. You can lock the phone go to other apps and switch back with missing a beat. The controls aren't perfect but not frustrating either. The music will silence if your phone is silenced and the cloud saves transfer to and from ipad perfectly. Fantastic port of a fantastic game.

I love that we have the option to use low res, like the original game, or high res, like the PC version!
The music quality is top notch.
Everything works good, though if i still dare ask, why not have a virtual dpad in landscape mode? I never understood why not.
