Compared to the various cable and broadcast network news apps such as CNN and Fox News, as well as the Sling App, this is by far the best thing available in the App Store.

It loads very quickly and the live video feed is instant. There is no loading time, even when switching between apps. When there are commercials, you get a simple static screen with a countdown to when the live feed will return. You get all sorts of CBS news programming, including any news shows airing normally on CBS at that time. When no live news is airing on CBS, you get great news anchors and reporters doing a standard, in studio news report that spans all the popular topics, breaking news, etc. It's also FREE! No cable subscription required, no log on required, it's just on all the time. You can also watch it on multiple devices like your iPad and AppleTV at the same time.

The CNN and Fox News app take forever to load the live stream and have repetitive commercials over and over again. They also crash and freeze all the time, especially when switching between apps. The Sling App for CNN and other news is also horrible, constantly freezing and only allowing 1 device at a time.

If you are not a cable subscriber and you want a 24 hour news channel you can watch online, this is the best option out there.

I have used USAToday for years. However I became so frustrated by its intrusive videos and popup ads that I went looking for an alternative. That's when I started using this app. Much less intrusive, and the stories may be even more current.

Don't get me wrong there are ads and we need to get use to them if we want free access to sites like this but their ads are much less obtrusive and don't detract from the purpose I use it, to read the news.

You can also tell ahead of times which items are videos and which are text. I still like to read the news partially because I use my headphones to listen to music. With USAToday I was never sure when I was going to loose the music because of a video or video ad.

In closing. This is a great ad give it a try.

Congratulations to CBS for stepping in. This is the future and is wonderful for people who travel around the world. All you need to see what is going in the US and elsewhere is to have and iPad and Internet and wifi connection. The iPad becomes a mobile TV you can watch anywhere! I have been watching live 24 hour internet TV news channels in English and in HD from UK (Sky), France (France 24), Japan (NHK), Russia (RT), and India (NDTV). It is all free! It was high time for the US to also have a 24 hour news channel on the net. The CBS news is really good, comprehensive and interesting and a great pleasure to watch especially in Europe and Asia. It is very neutral, respectable and gives an American perspective of world issues.

Great job on keeping the content mostly focused on real news. CNN has become a cess pool that is not much different than the National Enquirer. It's great to have an alternative, but you've taken it one step further with 24/7 live feed and real time breaking news coverage. I love keeping up on the news, but I don't like sifting thru garbage to get to it. Keep it up, and you'll build a large, intelligent online following that your advertisers will want to reach. Finally I'm ok watching a few commercials to keep the service free. However, repeating the same ad 10 times in one hour is irritating. Useful, short ads are fine, but please change them up more often. I hope you find this input useful.

CBS News has always been the standard-bearer in broadcast journalism, and that deep, textured and relevance has successfully translated to this app. Just like "CBS This Morning" brings a level of necessary intelligence to am tv, this app is thoughtful in its content, delivering to an audience craving real news that's useful and thought provoking, while avoiding judgement of crossover promotion from the entertainment division. Stories are curated from producers with far reaching institutional intelligence; CBS News holds the torch of relevant information to enlighten the day ahead. The app represents.

One of the great features of this app is that one can reach it anywhere in the world, quickly and without a subscription, just like SkyNews. While CNN and FoxNews (odd, because it's a sister network to Sky News!), ask you to give them home TV subscription information, and, at times, block the service in certain countries, CBSN is available globally, always quickly and reliably. It's become my "go to" TV news app, whenever I travel, whether in the U.S., or elsewhere. I hope CBS will keep it fee-free, and continue to provide global access.

All around great app and worth exploring. My favorite section being the fortuitous arrival of the 24 hour news feed (also available on Apple TV). The ghost of Dan Rather has seemed to have finally dissipated and I'll be keeping an "eye" open to see if the Über PC producers of the 1990s are still smelling up the place. However, after the disappointing behavior of other news channels over the last few months, I'm keeping fingers crossed CBSN will honorably deliver.

Not only is this app clean looking and well formatted, the reporting itself is refreshing because it is NOT sensationalized. Other news media seem to put out short headline bursts of inflammatory information which makes people jump to conclusions without thinking, and when you try to read the story there is very little information. This CBS News app content explains news overall so that its readers can learn and arrive at their own conclusions. I am impressed.

This is the only American news station that specifically tries only to report facts without political bias. The others get higher ratings for their radicalism but CBS is doing us all a service by trying very hard to only report verifiable coverage without the rhetoric. They deserve higher ratings and I think we would all be better off if we could convince Fox, Vox and MSNBC viewers to let go and watch the news for what it was meant to be with CBS.

Like this app so much better than CNN's. Great features, lots of content and quick to navigate. Smooth video. Noticed one small glitch with the Twitter feature, the URL forward does not link back to the desired article. I tried it twice for two separate articles and each URL posted in my Tweets linked back to the CBS mobile news main page only, not to the posted article. Hope this is just a fixable glitch otherwise what's the point.....

Insanely good. This was rated one of the 10 best apps on gizmodo and it shows. If I wouldve known about this sooner, I wouldn't have paid $3 on that bloated advertisement filled app CNN. This is actually far superior to CNN to the point where I wonder just how the hell they made it free. Has great quality video, easy to access news articles and an innovative little Twitter app inside. Download before they decide to charge for it!

Five Star App!!!! Ever since I downloaded CBS app I'm obsessed! I never used to be into news before but now that I have this, that's so accessible, it's a breeze!! I literally check this app like once an hour or rather every time I open my phone to check for new messages this comes next!! Thanks for keeping on updating! Life can always use improvement :)

I have looked at several apps which deliver the news as video rather than print and found myself setting them aside as curiosities. When I discovered this app, I decided to look at it because I often watch the CBS Evening News and thought that I might like their app. And I do ... it's like the evening news but longer, more in depth, and occasionally, when the story demands it, live in real time. For me, it's a keeper.

We had no idea how far technology would take us and now we almost take it for granted...

We have the chance to witness news from around the globe as it happens....in the palm of our hands.

Application of technologies using true to form coupled with professional journalism gives content that is to the point. Well done CBS!

I think it's one of the best apps available for a news organization that gives me up to the minute news and insights. CBS is a pioneer in news gathering and does it better, in my opinion, than anyone else. They have the content that the other web based companies wish they could have for their own "news" platforms. Apple, Facebook, Google are all secondary at the most. They can't compete.

I love the design of this app. Nice, clean, easy to read. Lots of well-produced videos. And live streaming the news is huge plus. Great job.

There do seem to be lots of commercials on the videos, but I understand that they need to pay for the quality reporting. My only real complaint is that the banner ads look cheap and graphically unattractive. They should switch banner ad supplier.

CBS appears to have gotten their news app for iOS closer to what a news app should be when considered against the news apps currently available from the major network and cable/satellite news organizations. Unlike most other apps that require you have either cable or satellite services, the CBS News app appears to allow more live access than any of the other news organizations.

CBS News seems to be the first of the old school TV network news channels to get the new paradigm of streaming media. If they keep this up they may well assume the mantel held by "CNN" who is still placing more importance on radio waves broadcast over copper wire. By offering their free news service on Apple TV and iOS, CBS has entered the 21st century as a leader.

I love this app. For some stupid reason other news apps and websites make it hard to find full episodes. Not this one though! It's easy and there's just 1 ad at the start. One can watch each episode in 20 minutes, go forward or back without re-watching ads, and overall catch up quickly. CBS News, Scott Pelley, the correspondents and this app are the best.
