It seems I've tried so many others, wondering why it would be so difficult to find a good puzzle that is easy to view, play, and enjoy, but this one most meets my expectations for a nice sudoku puzzle. Nice contrast, easily read numbers, as many challenging levels as one would want, and none of those annoying in-app purchases that others keep throwing at you at progressively higher intervals (or so I've heard, since I never purchase those). I did upgrade to the app without banner ads which also has multiple levels, but it's just a regular paid app-no more in app purchases needed. Though I don't often explore beyond the lower few levels (because I like to play for very short and quick transitions from day to evening rest time), I certainly like the variety of challenge available.

My only suggestions for improvement would be to move the upper left button (menu, I think), farther from the puzzle, as I'm often hitting it by mistake when I'm aiming for a square in the puzzle. I've learned my way around deleting a number and switching from number selection to penciling in pretty quickly now, so those things no longer bother me. The only other thing that would be nice is a pause button; thanks guys for a really nice game!

I like this version compared to others I've tried. I like being able to have several puzzles going at the same time on different grids. Like others, I also wondered about "guessing" where numbers go so I researched a bit. What I read was that the player should never guess, but I've been at a point (more than once) where guessing was my only option. I can only assume that somewhere along the way I misplaced a number, so again, I assume I must "undo" and recheck my placement or simply reset the grid & timer and start over. I have read that all boards have only one solution. I'm new to sudoku, but I think it is a great game. I have solved one diabolical game, but it was only after "undoing" and finding an error I made and ultimately going forward on a "guess" that turned out to be correct. I wish somewhere one could find a clear explanation of how to play. Even Wikipedia tells you all about the game, but nothing about strategy. I don't know for certain, but I believe that if you've checked and rechecked several times and cannot see a move based on logic you need to "undo" till you find your error or reset. The makers of this app should provide some info about this for those who have never played this game.

I'm a snob when it comes to functionality and design, some apps have decent features but are fugly as heck for example. I downloaded just about all of the Sudoku apps, I had to come back to this one because at first the way it highlighted the rows annoyed me. Found it distracting, just wanted simple. After going back to the others and once again eliminating every other app for either cruddy game play and/or fugly design that burns my eyes....I realized first that the help focusing on the highlighted rows is helpful and second you can disable it if you like. This one is the best. If you just want to play plain old Sudoku without crazy music or flashing colors...in an app that is stable and nice to look at...this is it. Save yourself the trouble and just download the paid version and delete the others. This is it, period.

This app is to sudoku as Kindle is to an actual book, namely, not a bunch of worthless graphics cluttering up the screen. In addition to being spared the annoyance of a bunch of clutter, it means that the game grid and numbers are really big, which I appreciate.

When I emailed the makers with a question about an auto-correct feature, they promptly responded. We had a nice little discourse about it which ended up being very educational for me. This game does not have auto-correct, with users apparently equally split on really liking that they do not have it vs. those who wish it did. I've decided that I appreciate that this app has chosen (at least for now) to skip auto-correct because, it is true, I have in the past used it to, um, well, I suppose the technical word is, uh, cheat!

Well worth the purchase. [Edit: One big request to the developers - please create a 'red light' aka 'night time' setting which eliminates the blue light and dims the screen. I love playing this before bed but shouldn't because it's bad for my eyes and brain to be staring at the blue light screen. A nighttime feature would be incredibly valuable.]
This is everything you want/need in a Sudoku app. You can manually write in notes, it's easy to use, and very clean. There's different colored layouts to use and an impressive selection of levels ranging from Easy to Diabolical, so you're unlikely to get bored. I also appreciate that you can turn off the features that assist the player by showing errors, etc. I tried all the sudoku apps and this is the only one worth using.

Of all the popularly downloaded sudoku apps, this is my favorite as it has a lot of assist options that you can turn off so that you can have pretty much the same sudoku experience as you would with a pen & paper version. I'm not a big fan of all the other sudoku apps that automatically alerts you when & where you made a mistake and yet doesn't give you an option to turn those assists off.

Part of why I love sudoku is exactly that aspect where I know the board is complete, yet I haven't been told that the puzzle is solved, so I know that I messed up somewhere and now it's up to me to find the error and fix it. By allowing me to turn all the assists off, this app gives me exactly what I'm looking for in a sudoku game.

I changed iPods recently because I lost the other one, and I waded through several other apps to find this one, the one I loved so much on the old iPod.

This app has everything I need. And it isn't burdened with a lot of fancy schmancy graphics. Some app producers seem to think that if they make the letters or numbers move or fly through the air, they will have enhanced the experience and made it better or even unique. These guys only added those features, which you can turn off or on, that really help.

Best sudoku option for me a long time player. Once you get the hang if how the developer approached whether you're entering numbers or notes the game is really smooth. I feel that some options for how the app treats cell state and input options would make it more comfortable at first.
Some of the reviews mention that notes are automatic and that notes update automatically making the end game to easy - these are options that can easily be turned off in settings for more experienced players.

I have had this for about two months now and I love it. It shows a pattern on each number that quickly shows you how many boxes it is already shown in. When you touch a number it highlights all the like numbers. You can turn on or off the feature that shows a red outline if you've selected a duplicated number. Several different levels available. It times the various levels and shows you your average so that you can judge if you're getting better or worse. Very handy app. I use it a lot.

Solid, well done version of Sudoku. I was reluctant to try an iPad version of Sudoku but since I enjoyed playing it offline so much, I thought I would see what versions for iPad were like. It's great that they have a free version (with only an Easy level to choose from) so you can get an idea of how the game feels without having to pay for it. It offers a number o f levels but I have only tried the medium. It is just a good, well designed version of Sudoku.

I've had sudoku apps before, but nothing else has even come close to the quality of this one. It's extremely easy to use. It's quick, responsive and helpful. My favorite part is the fact that when you tap on a number to investigate (such as 8), all the 8's on the board are highlighted. It's such a simple concept that makes the overall gameplay much more enjoyable. There are countless others waiting in the best sudoku app you could ask for.

This version of Sudoku plays well on iPhone and iPad. It offers levels of difficulty from easy to diabolical and evil.
In one mode, it will automatically show you what the possible numbers are in the remaining open squares, which you can do by hand, but which is incredibly tedious. I really like this feature. I use it all the time to play hard level puzzles. You still have to figure out what the solution could be.

Update: This is really upsetting, I hate the new color themes, should give the option of choosing the old color theme. I play this game more than twice a week, but I'm already looking for an alternative .......

Old write up: Excellent interface. The way I mark it on paper. After two years, I'm still enjoying it at least once a week.

This game is exactly what I wanted in a virtual sudoku game compared to paper sudoku. The numbers are highlighted when you want to work on a specific number. The one downside I noticed is that it is difficult to fill in a big number when you have a small number or numbers in the block. I found the rhythm to do so, so it just slows me down a little. It's worth the 99 cents to upgrade to the other difficulties!

Now I can go back to 5 stars! Nothing bad to say about app - good color/contrast, wide range of levels, can turn on/off notes. Can't stop playing! Can't say this was an improvement! The contrast between the numbers and the background makes it hard to look at the screen for longer than one game. On the other hand, now I won't play it as much as before! Please provide option to go back to other color scheme.

This is a nice setup where the more experienced players can choose harder levels and not become bored. But the beginners can still get the help that they need with understanding this game. I am teaching my Autistic son to play;) he is catching on slowly. It is a great way to relax.

I have been playing it for sometime. It is still fun and engaging, something to keep your mind moving and staying sharp.

I really love this game. It's easy on the eyes, lots of puzzles and I LOVE that you can select a number and then place it on multiple spaces on the grid without having to go back and forth from grid to the number every time. The only thing I wish it did was gray out or hide the number when you have placed it in all squares so you know you have used it all. Other than that this is the best app!!

I tried several sudoku games and this one is the best by far!! I especially like when you click on a number it lights up all the numbers, so if you pick 2, it highlights all the 2's but it doesn't tell you if you make a mistake either which I like because games that do that make it too easy. And this game has multiple difficulty levels which is great too. I love this game, it's so addicting.

I love this game and play it often. If the developers could find an easier way to make notes there would be nothing else to improve upon. My suggestion would be to make the note number lockable so you just have to tap the squares deserving of that number instead of having to tap each cell and then tap the number. This might keep me from spraining my finger!!

A few issues with setup were solved by RTFM online. Sometimes, randomly, number gets entered instead of note, but it could be me. Would really like more color schemes that make it easier to see alignment of numbers and outlines of box areas. Still, well done! So addicted to sudoku that I have many versions installed; this one is among the very best!
