This is a great app. Unlike the usual Sudoku apps that only provide limitless games, this app actually helps you learn to improve your game by providing multi-step hints that teach techniques rather than merely pointing to a cell and leaving it to you to figure out what's so special about that cell.

The ability to photograph a game from the newspaper, your computer screen, or other source and play it in the app is also a great feature since you can get the same types of hints for those games as are provided for the games provided by the app.

The app has 13 levels of difficulty which allows you to practice particular techniques that you've learned until you are comfortable with them and can then move to the next difficulty level to take on additional new techniques. This would not be possible if there were only a few levels of difficulty.

I find that a Pogo Sketch Stylus makes playing Sudoku on my iPhone more enjoyable, although you can certainly play with your fingers. This would be true regardless of which app you were using since it's the screen size not the app that makes it a bit challenging to play with your fingers.

If you're interested in improving your Sudoku, this is the app that can help you do it.

I don't generally write reviews, but obviously am sufficiently impressed with this app that it was worth sharing my thoughts. I have no connection whatsoever with the developer.

There was a web app for Enjoy Sudoku that I enjoyed playing, so I was super stoked when I saw they finally had a native app for it. I purchased "Sudoku Unlimited" (and tried a few free ones) which had nicer graphics, but the functionality of Enjoy Sudoku absolutely puts them to shame! I like to play quick little games in my spare moments and this allows me to do just that. Entering digits truly could not be any faster and easier, whether marking a note or entering an answer. A couple of small complaints for me is that it would be nice to have some different skins to choose from. Right now there is only one skin. Also, the graphics in general are definitely lacking, IMO. BUT, for me, I bought this game because of it's functionality, so it's not really a big deal for me. Hopefully some nice looking skins will come in an update sometime soon. Oh yeah...it seems like the menu navigation could be slightly better somehow, but I don't really have any suggestions as to what to change, haha. Once again though, this is very minor. In summary, if you like sudoku, this is THE version to get. Forget about all of those other ones! I've seen others going for $3 -$8 dollars that only have a few hundred puzzles on them, this has over 35,000! Right there should be enough of a reason alone.

I've been enjoying Enjoy Sudoku for well over a year now; and I have to say that this is BY FAR the best Sudoku app on the market. Period. What it lacks in visual appeal, it makes up for in performance and intuition. HOWEVER, knowing all of this... I STILL find myself sampling every new Sudoku app that arrives on the scene because the ONE THING missing from this app that I still yearn for is a 'cool icon'. I know that sounds so superficial; I can't believe I'm saying it. But it's true. I find that I force myself to try and get used to other Sudoku apps, just so I can get this awful "Thinker" icon off my iPhone's prestigious screen of preferred game apps. This one's just hideous compared to the artistic graphics employed by today's most popular apps. Even the original 'Enjoy Sudoku' icon is better than this one. BUT as I said before, NO OTHER compares to Enjoy Sudoku with regard to performance, responsiveness, intuition and interface. I would never be so judgmental as to let something this trivial affect my overall rating for this app. It gets 5 stars, without hesitation. A cooler icon would end my search, for sure. But for now, this app is securely in my list of Top 10 iPhone Apps of all times.

Have played a lot of Sudoku apps. This is by far the best. Outstanding tutorials, in lesson-only mode, or as hints when playing, with pop-up reminders for structure of applicable solving technique, or if you prefer instead as a specific explanation of how that solution technique applies to the puzzle at hand. The option to input puzzles via a camera scan is cool and works well. Endless games available within the app, at any difficulty level. Score stats tracked are impressive, including vs. yourself, and vs. their database of all prior game players. Difficulty levels are exceptionally finely divided (there are maybe 20? levels), based on specific additional solver techniques required. Gameplay has a very well-designed GUI too: every function you could imagine wanting is there. You can tell these developers are passionate about the game: this app is a labor of love, and a work of art. Major kudos to the developers. (I'm at best a middlin' level player, so all this praise is not because I have any special bias for Sudoku. Oh, it's worth noting that I was a rank amateur before I got this app. It makes learning very natural.)

I have played several Sudoku apps on the app store, and nothing has matched up to the functionality of the Windows Mobile title: "Sudoku Rules Extreme". Until Now. This Sudoku is for serious Sudoku players, and those who want to learn those tricky techniques for solving the most difficult puzzles. I particularly like the Hinting engine in this title, which is a progressive, multi-step hinting engine. At a certain point, it might tell you to "look or an XY-Wing" or "Looked for a finned Fish". Now you can spend some time looking for a specific pattern. If you're still stuck, you push the hinting engine one step farther, and you get a little bit MORE help. The UI is clean, fairly easy to figure out, and pretty easy to use. But my search for the perfect Sudoku on the iPod touch stops here. My ONLY requests from the developer are to a) think kindly of us iPod touch users and put an offline version of the manual IN the game, and not just link to your web page, and b) do something about letting us pause the clock when we need to step away from the game so we're not penalized for non play-time.

Version 3.x is restyled, but I am finally accustomed to it and I have no complaints now. I like that there are more levels, and also more solving techniques to learn. Those are features I loved in v2.x, and there are more of them now. Fantastic! This Sudoku app really is far better than any of the dozen or more that I've tried, and easily worth 5 stars again. With the most recent update (v3.1.1) the dev added a "Sand" skin, so I am finally able to have the user numbers blue and the given numbers black (like they are in newspapers, mags and books). Thanks Jason Linhart! Here is my more expansive review of version 2.x of Enjoy Sudoku (it applies even more to version 3.x): This Sudoku app is teaching me new, advanced techniques, and it teaches them clearly and seamlessly. I like the options to change the interface and input method, because not everybody likes doing things the same way. The statistics, various levels, and ability to enter numbers from a newspaper or magazine are all nice features as well. I can't find anything not to like about this app!

This deceptively simple and easy to read interface may not look flashy, but the imbedded intelligence behind this app is truly impressive. This Sudoku app turned out to be one of the most shockingly well-made and intelligent tools on my iPod. It has VERY complex solving techniques programmed into it, as well as tutorials and links to detailed information about said techniques.

There are tons if color-coding options for advanced players trying to find patterns like the 3D Medusa. The game can even be set to find your next move., give you hints and help you locate patterns.

It is an excellent app for those that are just learning how to play as well. For players that want more challenge they can turn off features and hints in the settings.

You can customize your background, choose from a bunch of fonts (Chinese, Sanskrit, Hebrew, Cantonese, you name it) to mix things up.

This is a smart app and is worth every penny if not more. For what's here it is a steal. You won't find a better sudoku app anywhere - this is the iOS equivalent of Hodoku for PC.

I'm one of those hunting the perfect Sudoku... After some purchases I've decided to try this version that I had already left behind once due the interface screenshots (too simple). In resume, the game has all the features I was waiting for: statistics (more than just games played or some score that does not mean anything); column/row/quadrant highlight and visual feedback when completed; subtle sounds; undo; consistent puzzles (each level has the same kind of game, not a mix with hard and easy labeled normal); and, of course, some of the basic features like pencil marks, auto pencil marks, mark erros and so on. However, the interface could be a bit modern: better buttons (a key pad like the iPhone one or something), select the background color and maybe the font too and a more professional looking icon (the current one is too bland and why write the game's name if it is already displayed under the icon?). The interface could look better but the game overall features forces me to give a 5/5 stars for sure.

This is the best of the many Sudoku apps, hands down! Why?
- flexibility: select square or number first, most apps are setup so that you select a square, then the number. This is backward from how I solve and constantly annoying.
- highlights all squares with that number or its pencil mark, a huge help in solving. You can also turn this off for more difficult play
- allows you to work easily between solved numbers & pencil marks
- excellent error check on both hard numbers and pencil checks.
- 10 levels of difficulty, for really stretching your play skills
- lessons to learn the basics of Sudoku and its more esoteric points
- the single best feature is the hints...not just giving you a cell, but showing you an area or number to examine for yourself. Hints include advanced techniques like X-wings, finned fish, pivots and bugs.
- wild card games that challenge or relax
I've learned more about sudoku in this app than I believed possible!

I am amazed by this app almost every time I play it. I am working my way up through the advanced levels (currently Devious) and when I get stuck I ask for Help. It first directs me to the place in the puzzle that has a challenging move, but it lets me try to recognize the pattern. If I can't, it then shows the move with a full explanation. I can then continue the puzzle, or I can pause to get a full example tutorial on that move. Totally amazing in my opinion. And these are not canned examples. I have entered puzzles from magazines and newspapers and the app provides the same level of help. I also discovered that a number of the puzzles in the Southwest Airlines magazine are corrupt, having more than one solution. I was sitting next to a guy struggling with one of those puzzles, and I casually remarked that the puzzle had more than one solution. He looked at me and said "my god, a Sudoku genius". I didn't say anything...

I'm not the best Sudoku player but this ap is making me better. The explanations of the techniques are pretty good, but if you do a game that is on the difficult side for you, the "hint" feature demonstrates how to apply new methods. Typically, you'll get a few puzzles in a row that are based on that technique to allow you to consolidte it. The ap also very versatile. If you want to parallel the kind of play you get with a paper sudoku, you can put in pencil marks. If you want fast play to emphasize the logic game aspect of it, it will put in the pencil marks for you. I've played it pretty frequently and there are a seemingly endless supply of puzzles. I also really like the differently-sized numbers option. If I would sugest one thing it would be to have the option of replacing numbers with colored dots or symbols for those of us whose visual styles work better that way. This is a great ap.

I thought I was really good until I got this app. I started right away with the "nightmare" level which was a joke on my part. So I decided to back down a handful of levels and try "difficult". It was difficult but I completed it. Next I tried "annoying" which ended up being annoying because I couldn't finish it without hints. The cool thing about the hints is it teaches you how to come up with the answer. All of these puzzles are solvable without guessing. If you think you need to guess it just means you don't know the technique to finish it. Tapping on the hint box allows you to learn the technique required to finish. But it's not an easy task. Some of the techniques are very difficult even with explanation and will just take time to learn. No other sodoku app will allow you to experience so many levels and also truly TEACH you how to win. Great App!

I love this app. I have played sudoku for years. This has taught me how to look for patterns I would have never known to look for before. I also like that when you scan in your own puzzle, you get to verify it is correctly scanned before you save it. I've used other apps for sudoku to do this, and there's nothing more frustrating than working on an unsolvable puzzle, because it scanned the wrong number and you didn't notice it. This app shows the conflicts in red and the numbers that work in green. Even if you didn't get all the numbers correct, you know you at least have a solvable puzzle. I would recommend buying this app. I also like where it shows you how you rate against others who have solved the puzzle that day. I enjoy it when I see that I am faster than 100% of those who solved it that day.

There are many great sudoku games available, what sets this game apart, is that it can teach you to be a better sudoku solver...

When asking for a "clue", you can choose to have a value given to you, see if there are errors in what you have filled in so far, or (my personal favorite), to be "walked through" the process of finding a value, or eliminating pencil marks. This teaches you to be a better sudoku player, and ultimately raises your playing ability!!

When I started playing a couple years ago I couldn't get above the moderate level (6 out of 13). Now I'm doing Fiendish puzzles (level 11) without clues, and I'm working through solution methods for level 12 (Diabolical). I hope to master the Nightmare (level13) puzzles by the end of the year...

I love Sudoku and was very happy when I saw this app. The tutorial is easily the best I've seen. I'm still trying to learn some of the more advanced strategies. I also like that you can enter your own puzzle. Sometimes I'll be doing a hard Sudoku in a book and I'll get stuck. Not only can I enter what I've done into the app, but it will even give me hints on that puzzle! And scanning in a puzzle using the camera is SO COOL! It's great for when I want to do a puzzle from someone else's newspaper that I can't mark up or tear out. Simply stated, I can't imagine using another Sudoku app. On a scale of 1-5 I give it 10 stars!

I have been playing this game for a number of months. First I played the free version and then upgraded. I LOVE this game. I can play as much as I want, learn about strategies, practice games that are beyond my comfort level and enter games of my own.

Also as an added benefit, I have contacted the support line three times, and my experiences have been stellar. Response time is very quick, advice is practical, and I had the feeling I was e-mailing friends.

I can't say enough good things about it. It's wonderful, fun, and helps test logic.

I wrote this a long time ago, and I want to add that its excellence continues. I have recommended it to many people. I am so thankful for it.

please don't let the 90's styling scare you. this is one of the best apps of any category. period. and let me tell you why. first, you will not find quicker number/pencil entry method. second off, this is a magnificent training app for learning and improving your chops. sudoku+ actually shows you the applicable techniques as you are playing. this is no small thing. I could go on and on. but, you will find out soon enough just why I cannot rave highly enough about this app! oh. and by the way, this app is one of the only apps that I have actually purchased the paid version for. as it is so valuable, I want to support Jason Linhart as much as possible. thank you.

I can't imagine a better app for Sudoku puzzles. It has daily puzzles at numerous levels and always lets you know how your time compares with others who have worked the same puzzle. It has a "scan from camera" feature that makes it easy to import puzzles from newspapers or magazines. It has multiple tools to help a user if needed, including a very useful hint function that doesn't just give you part of the answer, but tells you what to look for so that you can find the answer yourself. And if you don't understand a certain technique for solving a puzzle, it has detailed explanations to help you learn.

I've been playing this app for (2 or 3) years now. It's never crashed or gone wonky. So much value added, it's better than I ever could have made it. I hate it now if I play on a friend's device and they have a different app!!!

At the beginning, some of the higher logic was simply beyond my ability to comprehend at first. But you can move up through the levels just by playing the games and reading the explanations.

Also, the colored/highlighted cells really helps you sort out what's happening in your game. Now, when I mess up a printed puzzle, I enter it here and I can finish it.

This is, by far, the most entertaining Sudoku app I have used. Not only are the puzzles challenging, but you get hints indicating a technique without actually showing it. It will show the pattern and remove numbers, if you want it to, but it hints what pattern to look for and let's you go back and try to find it. There is a very good tutorial included to teach solving techniques; however, the tutorial uses unfamiliar terms that are not explained elsewhere and cannot easily be found on the Internet.

I have used several other apps, but always come back to this one.
