I was incredibly excited when Apple partnered with HBO to introduce HBO NOW. I have been without cable or dish for many years, and I finally get to catch up on all of my shows. I had one issue with the app when it first started. I clicked on season one, episode one of Eastbound and Down and it crashed. Upon clicking on True Detective, I was able to watch for two nights in a row with zero issues.

As far as the price goes, I plan on using this application sporadically. When HBO comes out with a new show that I like to watch, I will sign up for a month to watch it. Unfortunately for HBO, their content is often highly subject to piracy. I would prefer to pay these highly talented people for the awesome entertainment they provide me on a weekly/nightly basis.

I hope other companies realize the fallacy of having a cable/satellite connection requirement and put their content up for similar viewing. The Netflix/HBO NOW model works, and it allows users to choose content at a fair price. The best thing about this type of entertainment is that you don’t have to sign up for a one or two year commitment.

Bottom line: great application, great content, and I don’t know why people would expect it to be perfect at launch. Thank you Apple and HBO!

First of all, it's stand alone H.B.O. Without heaving to me tied to a cable company. H.B.O NOW doesn't rely on you having H.B.O. Service via your cable provider. There are thousand of movies, H.B.O. Original series such as The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, The Wire and many more. You have Comedy stand up and movies by artist such as Chris Rock and many other greats. Sports, well H.B.O has the best boxing matches you could add for. Includes Real Sports with Bryant Gumble. Their Documentaries lineup is nothing but vast. Anything from Autopsy episodes with Dr. Michael Baden to "The Iceman"tapes and confessions of a serial killer along with a interview from a famous psychiatrist and The Iceman. There is also a Collection Section that can vary from essential movies to that are must see in your lifetime to All Star Comedy that includes some of the newest and funniest comedic movies that are all great and we must see. There is also a Late Night Section that includes Cathouse, Real Sex and Taxi Cab Confessions Episodes along with other interesting adult content . H.B.O NOW has a Watchlist Feature to add Movies, Comedies or Documentaries to this list when you find something interesting that you want to watch. Excellent App.

Update: Everything works now, when a registered I put a $ in the password. There is a bug that lets you do so but the login won't work with $ in the password. So I followed the registration link from the confirmation email, used a simpler password and now everything works.

I signed up for free trial on my Apple TV and watched Last Week Tonight. It worked really well. I got an email about it from iTunes and three from HBO, I registered on HBO's website. But the app won't work on my iPhone. When I try to use the email address I registered with the password I created on HBO's site it says the the email or password is incorrect. When I click the password forgotten button I never get an email. When I click the restore iTunes purchase link nothing happens, when I click the free trial button nothing happens. So I can watch HBO Now on my Apple TV but not on my iPhone even though I installed HBO Now on my iPhone.

Loving HBO Now! I cut the cord two years ago with my cable & internet provider because the cost was prohibitive. My phone is now a wifi hotspot for my laptop - inconvenient at times, because I have to go elsewhere to back up my phone to iCloud, but cheap and good enough for work purposes. I get a few broadcast TV stations via a cheap digital antenna. With HBO Now, I no longer feel deprived of entertainment options. Works great just using cellular data. Once in a rare while, my connection is too slow and a movie will pause or switch to audio streaming, but that's not the app's fault, and it rarely happens for more than a few seconds. The last time I had HBO, it was a premium service added to an already pricey broadband subscription. Now it's something I can choose without having to subscribe to a hundred channels I don't want. A la carte affordability combined with an all-you-can-eat entertainment buffet.

I don't know why people are complaining about $15/month. It is that good of a value. I'm sure they have researched it. You will get new movies every month before they hit Netflix.
Since these are supposed to be App Reviews, let's talked about that. I like that when I opened the app, it suggested to start where I left off from my AppleTV. It is smart to have the Back 10 and Forward 10 seconds button. The interface has been easy to use and smooth on getting the images. It would be nice if the next image off screen was already loaded, that way I wouldn't have to wait for the thumbnail to load. I like that you don't have to go to IMDB to see the show/movie information from cast to director to the music. It would be nice to see the expire date in the watch list or be able to order them according to expire date. AppleTV shows the expire date but the iPhone app doesn't.

I have been keeping an eye on reviews of this app ever since launch and I was worried I would fall into the “Not Working” category. Luckily, I downloaded it last night and have watched it flawlessly on my ipad mini and macbook air. I can skip around just fine and everything syncs up perfect. I’m not sure what the problem is for about 40-60% of users who leave a review and Im sorry its not working like it should for everyone. Thats on HBO to get it fixed so all can enjoy it how its supposed to be.
My advice is take a shot and download it to see if you’re one of the lucky people who doesn’t have a problem. If it doesn’t work you could wait for an update or cancel it until they get it fixed for everyone. That was my approach and it worked out for me. I have good/but not great internet and have no issues. Have a good day!

I asked for this in a review about a year ago. Thank you SO MUCH! I got so sick of the unethical practices of bait and switch channeling and sneaky billing practices of companies like Comcast, DirecTV and Dish. I fired them all and recently tossed my satellite dish in the trash for good! I begged you to separate yourselves from these crooked companies so people like me(I know a lot of people who have dumped these companies) who are sick of these companies could still watch your amazing programs! I've been watching you since you first appeared in the 80's, and you were the only reason I ever subscribed to any of those services.
Now I'm a customer for life! Thank you soooooooo much!
Update: I don't get the griping. I use this on AppleTv, iPad 3rd Gen, and iPhone 6 plus. Absolutely stellar. No issues. Still love it!

I honestly don't understand all the complaints. This app is great. Admittedly, there was some voice sync issues in the very first iteration but that has since been resolved. Someone below was complaining about full seasons not being released at once like Netflix. Ok, this was NEVER promised with HBO Now. Not once, not ever. Basically, it's HBO but only in a stand alone app. Meaning programming rolls out just like its cable counterpart. The UPSIDE, however is that, unlike its cable counterpart, you can go back and watch episodes at your leisure. You don't have to wait for your favorites to come up on a pre programmed schedule. Love that. Because of this app i've dropped my cable tv package and am saving boatloads of cash each month. Outstanding roll out and I know its only going to get better. Keep it up!

I originally wrote a review complaining that I could not turn off closed captioning. That problem has apparently been fixed. Now, HBO NOW is working flawlessly for me. I don't do much except watch movies, but I've been having no problems for about three weeks now!

From some of the other reviews I've read here, I think some people don't understand that this basically just a sign-in app. It doesn't do much else. But, it looks as though there are many legitimate problems that people are having. I hope HBO gets busy and fixes the problems people are having! It looks as though nothing is being done by HBO, but, when I had the problem with closed captioning, they fixed it right away. Other problems must be more difficult, but be patient. It does seem as though they are "working on it"!

I thought about getting the showtime subscription today, but the reviews were horrible. I know my HBO Now app works great on my iPhone 6, iPad Air, and Apple TV, so I was disappointed to learn the Showtime app wasn't good. Then I decided to read the HBO reviews and I don't understand why people have such problems. I've used this in Wifi, in 4G, in LTE, it always works. I find it more convenient to watch HBO through my Apple TV than through my Dish Network subscription. I'm not watching live TV and it's easier to navigate through the app than it is through the on-demand menu on my TV. The content is good and what I expect from HBO. I appreciate that there is no commitment and it's easy to turn off my subscription if I want to.

Haven't had a problem running it on my iPad mini at all. Super happy HBO decided to do this and I feel there is a ton of content for the price. I thought it was just shows at first but it's everything available that month on HBO(movies, documentaries, etc)
I feel aside from glitches most of the bad reviews are from people who aren't reading the fine print. Apple products only unless you subscribe via email and then you came watch it on your comp. they obviously aren't going to allow you to watch episodes that haven't aired on TV, but you can watch them same time as premier.
Overall super thrilled and I intend to get my money's worth by watching as much as possible! : )

When I heard about HBONow this is the sort of app I was expecting. For me it was easy to set up my trial, and billing will be easy through iTunes (no contract!). Easy to navigate and the video is sharp and plays smoothly on my iPad Air 2 over home wifi. I've seen where some folks have had issues, but I probably just crossed over the 10 hours of viewing mark and haven't had a freeze or a crash. There's plenty of content here and it's easy to find what you're looking for. As for pricing, I can't see how you can complain given how much is available to you, but that's a personal thing I guess. For me the app and the service work terrific, especially for a first try.

Set up my free month yesterday via my AppleTV. Watched a bunch of documentaries yesterday as well as today (Sunday). No issues with quality or buffering etc. My true test was going to be whether or not the latest Game of Thrones episode went off without a hitch. I half expected issues and honestly wasn’t going to sweat it if I did have them - but low and behold, not a single issue. Streamed beautifully! I have 18mbps service via ATT Uverse and my Apple TV uses WiFi. I certainly hope this trend continues. Very happy with the app thus far. I have not yet tested it on my iPad and have no use for it on my iPhone, but my main intention was to use it via Apple TV.

The service itself is great, and I'm thrilled to finally have access to HBO. As a cord cutter I care about price, but in the context of quality over quantity. I would rather pay more for a small number of fantastic shows I deeply enjoy, than less for 600 channels of dreck. HBO is one of the few content producers that offers the kind of quality I respect. Finally I can give them my money without being forced to pay for the garbage on cable also. Aside from the day one role out bugs the process to sign up was pain free.

If you've already purchased your subscription through iTunes and cannot login is here what you need to do: open the app, press the blue Register Through iTunes button (even if you already have) and fill in the registration blanks to your liking. Now here's the trick: when entering your password DO NOT USE SPECIAL CHARACTERS. ONLY LETTERS AND NUMBERS. IGNORE THE INSTRUCTIONS STATING THE PASSWORD REQUIRES AT LEAST ONE SPECIAL CHARACTER. After that fill in the rest of the blanks and complete the registration. You should receive a notification, not an email, stating that you have successfully unlocked HBO NOW. Enjoy the app. :)

I am not an avid TV watcher. I watch three shows that I follow on a weekly basis. I don't believe in paying $70-$150 per month for a few TV shows. That being said, I don't believe in add-on packages. I love that HBO created this app. It has shows and movies for a fraction of the cost of cable. Yes there are a few "issues" (such as not being able to watch live content, which HBO states is not always available) but that's fine with me as I don't watch that much TV to begin with. If live content is important to you, this might not be for you. If you're having trouble with app, uninstall it and reinstall. Works great for me.

Ive never had any of these experiences with this app. Id say $15 a month is fairly high, considering most people only would want to watch one or two shows. Price should be for number of shows watched, and if you want to add anymore you can for a fee. If any of you are having to find yourselves with your phones crashing of bugging out, maybe you should try to restart it (holding power button and home button simultaneously until you see the apple sign. This app does require lots of data and will probably jack your phone up post-download, so try restarting it. I hope this is helpful

I have been counting down to the release of HBO Now since last fall. The ap seems to be flawless on Apple TV. I haven't used the iPad ap yet. I understand we aren't able to use on two devices simultaneously. I think the price is very fair, although if it increases to close to $30 than I want to be able to use on two devices at one time. My household is large and we have multiple platforms . For now, I think it is perfect the way it is. Thanks for acknowledging the coming revolution, I appreciate being able to customize my TV viewing without relying on cable TV.

Complete access to every HBO show and their current movie line up on the go! If you don't think their library is worth $15 thats fine but comparing the movie selections to Netflix is a joke. I love Netflix for TV but the movie selection is garbage.
The app supports picture in picture so I can watch while I use other apps.
So glad to have a way to watch Game of Thrones, Jon Oliver, or Bill Maher the moment it airs on TV without using an illegal download or stream. I love HBO programming and want to support it!

I am totally enjoying HBO Now. Yes, there are bugs, but the app is still ten times better than a cable box. If you download a new app immediately after it is released, and then are surprised that the brand new app has a few bugs, then you need to get a firmer grip on reality. Show me a new app that is bug-free on its first release, and I will show you the purple unicorn that lives in my backyard. Chill out.

I have faith that HBO will fix any bugs in the next update, so everyone should stop whining.
