Wow. I am impressed. Seriously.

I have searched for this functionality for a very long time. I am a minister and find it hard to track my mileage. Quick trip to Walmart here. Quick trip to dollar store there. Quick trip to go visit someone in the hospital. Many of those trips never get written down. I've wasted so much money not recording those tiny little trips.

I bought Automatic because I hoped it would help me by exporting to a Google spreadsheet. It did. But tracking mileage is not really what it was made for. I needed an app that was made to classify my drives easily.

I was skeptic at first. I kept Milebug on my phone until I tested the app for a week. It picked up all my trips perfectly. I might put Milebug back on for those times when I need to enter a trip manually but I hear that functionality is coming in the near future.

I love that this app just works. Classifying later works better for me than trying to remember to open the app or open a spreadsheet.

I have now bought the year unlimited. It is tax deductible to do so and I don't even have to think about it now. I had ten trips in three days. Pretty sure I'll hit over forty every month with no problems. This thing really does pay for itself quickly.

This is truly the ultimate tool for all of us out there who's looking to get our money back!
I have been using it for over a year now, and I can say it is worth every single penny I spent on it.

1. First thing first: after short setup, this app doesn't require much attention. In fact, it only takes about 10 seconds each day to classify your drives.

2. BESIDES classifying between Business and Personal, it lets you specify between even more categories within Business or Personal. For example, one would classify drive like: Groceries in Personal, not JUST Personal.

3. Automatically registers when you're driving, also registers Date, Time, City.

P.S. One of the uses of this software I've had is when trying to prove then you've been somewhere. Simply show the screen of your phone - program can't lie.

4. Easy-to-manage online access with options to: (!) Annual export or Monthly export in CSV File, which is then easily editable in Microsoft Excel, Apple Numbers, or Google Docs. There's is also option for PDF file.

5. It even shows you the graph of how many business drives over personal drives you have had. The graph can be shown by Day, Week, or Month.

Overall I'm highly satisfied with this piece of software and would recommend it to anyone out there doing they're own business.

Every time tax season rolls around I find myself scrambling to come up with receipts and showing logs in order to calculate my deduction for business travel.
One day I randomly stumbled onto a blog for Real Estate Professionals that had a 'Top 10' list of must have apps, and MileIQ was on the list. I downloaded the app to see if it was something I could make use of, and was pleasantly surprised at how useful it's been! Other than accidentally quitting out of the app once or twice, I have had zero issues and I'm so thrilled that I don't have to worry about keeping track of where I've been driving around to anymore!
Small improvement suggestions:
I would love if it could show an overview of the route drivenwhen you tap on the map, instead of just the starting and ending point, because when going through and sorting my 'drives', I sometimes can't remember what was a personal trip and what was business-related (especially when it's a home-to-home or office-to-office trip).
Also, perhaps a way to enter the make/model/etc of the car being used in order to calculate fuel usage/depreciation expenses.
Otherwise an awesome tool! I recommend this app for anyone who drives for work or needs to keep track of their drive time/distance for any reason. :-)

I am self-employed and have been using this app to track my mileage for 8 months now. It runs silently in the background and saves your trips for when you open the app to categorize them. You swipe left for personal, right for business. You can pause slighty as you do so, and it lets you further catergorize the trip into one of at least 9 custom categories (default categories are provided if you prefer).
In 8 months of using the app - sometimes with as much as 3000 combined miles per month - it has NEVER missed a trip or falsely recorded a long light or traffic jam as a "stop". It will sometimes record weeks of unclassified data, and stores it all patiently until remember/feel like doing it. The information is stored automatically online. It will then email (upon request) reports/logs that are compatible with Excel or any other application that supports comma-delimitedy data.
This app has made me a minmum of $300 every month that I have been using it. As a side benefit, it's extremely accurate and reliable recording of the location and time for each stop allows me to use it to automatically record my onsite times for later billings.

In late 2014, MileIQ finally released a much needed update to allow users to customize their locations. Prior to this release, the displayed to-and-from location was just the city name, an obvious flaw. The tool does capture fairly tight and accurate street address information so once you create a personal location you can have it update all past & future visits with the custom names. The phone app also allows you to update locations as well as add notes (such as client name or other specific info related to the specific visit). You can create customized business purposes on the desktop version which can be tagged to a visit with just a swipe on your phone. In my situation, I need to track information by client which is simple to do by having each client set as a specific business purpose. It's then a breeze to report on each client by selecting all records by customized purpose. The tool even allows you to add in addition costs such as tolls to each trip segment (although I don't use this function). I expect to see addition great features to be added in the future - but don't feel like you need to wait, the existing functions are superb!

I wish I would have invented this app. The interface is great and reliability/accuracy is incredible. It makes it VERY easy to assign drives to different reasons and accurately records true drives. It costs more than other apps, yes, but you won't use another app more reliably. The cost of the app to the benefit it brings you is appropriate.

These are more comments to the developer / recommendations: I love the ability to open the map showing the full trip. Great feature! When it comes to assigning drives, I've looked but not found how to add categories to personal or work. Also, can there be another option to record drives? There are two instances I've liked to have had a record of driving but not applied to my work drives. 1) when I was in a company car. I don't get reimbursed for it but would like to prove that those miles aren't reimbursed. Also, 2) a personal drive that wasn't in my car. Without these options, I have been deleting them, but especially in a company car, would like to keep that (so I can show that trip is actually NOT being applied to my reimbursement).

I installed this app a couple months ago because I drive all the time for work and I'm TERRIBLE about tracking the mileage manually. Before MileIQ, the experience of mileage reimbursement time was inevitable-hours and hours spent once a month to go through my calendar and try to figure out where I had gone every day. This also meant a lot of lost money - not to mention neck pain from hunching over the laptop! But not anymore. Mile IQ runs constantly in the back ground, keeping track of everywhere I go automatically. And, when I'm ready to do my reports, I log in to the website where I can quickly look at the map to remind myself of the locations I had visited, make my notes and run the report for the finance guys. What once was 8 or so hours of agony on a monthly basis is now less than 2. And now that you can edit drives "in-app", with a little discipline I can shrink that time down more. I've shared this app with my colleagues who also drive a lot and they have thanked me repeatedly for sharing. But the real thanks goes to the developers for creating such a great app!! Six stars for sure!!

Super amazing, quick, and actually fun to classify each place you've been. I'm a working artist, and I always have the best intentions of writing down trips, which I never remember to do, ever. Already the first month, this app has more than paid for itself. It's so polite, too-- like every couple of days, this polite robot taps you on the shoulder (via a push notification) and it helpfully walks you through a quick snapshot of all the different places you've driven (see, you started right here on the map, and you stopped there) along with what time and what day it was, and you go: "Oh yeah, I remember; that's when I went to the art store to pick up more paint-- that was business! (swipe right). And this map is when I drove my kid over to his friend's house-- personal! (swipe left). Swiping through the past eight or ten car trips takes like 45 seconds to categorize the whole lot, and bam, you're done. I love it. Otherwise I would lose all that money-- because I know myself: I seriously underestimate how many trips I make for business. And writing it down takes way too much dedication.

I did the free 40 trips and then purchased the unlimited package. This program has saved me a lot of paper and headache. The program is simple, reliable, customizable, and their customer support was almost immediate and very helpful to resolve the one user error problem I created by mislabeling a location. I can even create my own categories for trips to fit my unusual business travel needs.
I'm on the road for work daily saving companies on merchant services such as credit processing, ATM, and gift cards so I have tons of business driving daily.
This program satisfies my tax needs related to mileage logs and prevents me from forgetting to write down my mileage. I double checked my trips for a long time before I trusted it and it was 100% accurate. If someone has a problem with this bullet proof simple program, then I suggest they make sure they're not the cause of the problem before they complain.
I highly recommend this program to anyone who needs to track their work or medical travel miles for tax purposes.

I am a Thirty-One Consultant & MileIQ is THE PERFECT app for what I need. Tracking my mileage is a must for tax purposes - but who has time to record before and after with their mileage & then record it on a mileage log? Not me. I usually forget, too until I've already arrived back home from my trip.
MileIQ automatically tracks every single drive for me no matter where I go. All I have to do is go into the app and swipe left for personal drives and swipe right for business drives. It already has the mileage cost rates within the app according to the IRS, so it will tell me exactly how much that drive should have costed me - or should refund via taxes - with every swipe.
It also has the feature to add a purpose or reason for each drive. So I can swipe left for personal, but then also specify if it was an errand, a doc appointment, a charity function, etc. It has the same functions with the business side.
This is the best mileage app I have ever had. Hands down.

I have never written an app review before, but I want to share my experience. Before using this, I struggled to keep up with business miles, especially switching between vehicles. I had a calendar to write milage, but often forgot. I've tried many other apps, but they were so user intense.
Then came MileIQ. Problem solved. It runs seamlessly in the background. Never crashed on the 8.0 update and never misses a drive. Drives are saved with map so you don't have to remember to mark your book. With the flick of a finger I can mark a drive as business or personal. The car I'm in doesn't matter because I always have my phone with me. Once a week I get a reminder email to sort my drives. Best part- it doesn't drag the battery use down while running.
This is by far the most useful and easy milage app I have ever tried to use. My accountant likes the reports I can send to him. I highly recommend this app for anyone who needs to track milage and trips.

This app is phenomenal. I had it on my phone for some time; but didn't give much insight into it until tax time came along and needed some form of evidence to a lot for my high mileage. I opened the app and it had EVERYTHING! I went ahead and paid for the unlimited mileage, and it gave me my previous mileage a beyond the allotted 40. I love this app, I'm a realtor and I like to be able to put on notes with specific clients I was with or did a showing for, etc. I can then download by the month and input the total mileage for business into my accounting software (realtyzam). This app is a true lifesaver, you don't have to remember nothing, just log them later when you get a chance, if you forget what the drive was for, normally once you click the map and analyze it with the time, it's very clear exactly what you were doing during that specific drive. This app is a must for anyone who needs to track their mileage for any reason!

Ad for this app came up on my Facebook and I decided to give it a try. I sell scentsy and travel a lot for parties and events as well as meetings etcetera. I NEVER write down mileage even though I say I will. This is PERFECT! Today was my first day and it counted as 3 drives. Home to a teammates house to pick up money from product she borrowed from me, then stopped and got ice cream on way home. And then from ice cream home. All counted as seperate trips. My only suggestion would be to be able to double the trip to count as round trip? Does that make sense? Like I went a little out of my way to get the ice cream but I would have had to come home anyway. So I'm counting from the ice cream store - home as business. But in reality it would be more accurate to just double the first leg as far as mileage. But this is a great app and very impressed! I'll be buying the full version for sure and recommending to my team. Thank you!!!

I've only been using this app for 2 days, and already view it as a "must have" for my busy life as a web developer. Between meeting clients, making sales visits and running errands, tracking my mileage was one of those things that often slipped through the cracks. With my old app (TripLog), I had to *remember* to start the tracking (it's auto-start feature was horrific), enter odometer readings and perform quite a bit more maintenance on the exported information. Yes, the app is pricey, but I will quickly recover that investment at tax time both in terms of writing off the cost as deductible and by having an accurate, legit mileage log.

I've had a minor issue with adding "purposes" for drives, where the app wouldn't immediately display my custom categories. However relaunching the app seemed to take care of this issue.

If you're busy like I am, don't look any further. Download MileIQ and take advantage of all it offers.

I use my own truck for work and I would do my best to keep up with and turn in receipts and then haggle with HR about legitimate and illegitimate expenses. It was always a nagging struggle and I knew I was always getting shorted. I either lost receipts or forgot to turn them in or any number of things would come up and the result was me not getting paid what I was owed.
Now all I have to do is open this app once every other week or so, swipe left for personal and right for business, hit export and then get PAID. I don't have to try and remember where I was on what day and try to tie it to some receipt, I can just look and see where I was.
This app is great. I got over $400 in reimbursements on my first month. If I was doing them myself and was off by only 10%, that's $40 right there I would have lost, not to mention the time I've gained in not having to do the paperwork anymore.

I am obsessed with this app! I am a personal assistant and do not get reimbursed for my gas for the random errands I have to run during the day. I tried to guess my mileage and keep track on my own but I would always forget and lose track. This app will not allow you to lose track!! It separates each of your drives automatically and allows to add notes and classify each of your drives as either personal or business. I have been adding notes even to my personal drives just so I can remember where I go on the weekends and such. This app does all the math for you and will give you a detailed pdf of all of your drives. 100% worth the purchase of unlimited drives. Also, they have superb customer service! I emailed Dan about a question and he wrote me back that day and was very accommodating. If you're thinking about getting this app don't think anymore, go ahead and get this amazing app! You won't be disappointed

I tend to be very bad at remembering to record my mileage for business. This app is great because it runs in the background recording where I go and it saves it. When I have a minute I can go and review where I've been, letting me decide if it was personal or business with the swipe my finger.
Remembers locations if you put in where it's been so that instead of telling me the city I'll tell me exactly where I went which makes it even easier to tell if that was a business or personal run. A favorite feature is the ability of logging on to the program on the computer and batch saving trips by day when I have forgotten to go in and update the app for a while.

I upgraded to the monthly subscription and have been very happy with it. Five dollars a month for taking the pain of writing all this down myself is way worth it especially because it just wasn't happening before.

This app is so easy to use! It is motion activated so you don't need to do a thing to activate it. When you get time you just slide the map of your trip to the left or right to categorise "personal or business. Also if you want to add a purpose for the trip you just slide it half way and add a category from one of the presets or you can add a custom category and it will appear in the list. If you need more than the maximum on a free account you only pay a small $5.99 monthly charge for unlimited use. You get monthly reports so you can get a reimbursement from your employer or a true "paper" trail for the IRS at tax time. No need to keep a journal and hand write your start and stop milage, purpose of the trip and addresses from here to there. Very user friendly! I am in love with this app. Must have for everyone that uses there automobile in their business.

I have run a small business for 20 years and have always been hounded by CPAs to keep track of my mileage. I have tried but failed many times, no actually every time. I got busy or forgot or couldn't find the tablet I had written on last, etc..etc. I am sure someone can relate to writing it on a napkin and sticking it in the glovebox.

Anyway this app gives me NO excuses anymore. I never realized how many miles I drive and which are for work and which for personal. I like this so much I am going to put it on my employees phones. It can help me track time on site and a little bit of accountability on their part. This is going to help me with billing so much.

I love this app and I am sure I will figure out more ways it can benefit my business as I use it more. It is a must have for me. It is worth it's weight in gold for as little as it costs a year.

Pros:
1.Records everywhere I go without having to worry to record it manually.
2. After I review my trips and decide if is business or personal, I can get a detailed spreadsheet with $amount for easy tax deduction.
3. Separating business from personal is as easy as a swipe of a thumb... So convenient!
Cons:
1.Records everywhere you go, even if you are not driving, like train or just walking and records as driven trip. No big deal, you just separate that trip manually.
2.Doesn't know where to end a trip sometimes, so you get 2 trips mashed together; no big deal, can also fix easy manually.

Definetily recomend the upgraded version if you are a contractor or always on the road for business(great for delivery peole, independent contractors, uber/Lyft drivers, etc); you can keep proper track of mileage expense for tax deduction and reimbursements.
