Gems are vital for the game but that doesn't mean that you can't progress without them. You need time and patience to finally have a strong deck without using money. It took me 8-9 months to do it with no money. The drop rate in booster pack are low but not impossible. The events are quite competitive . Overall the game is good but I will like the game to be more open to free players too and not just reward the top 100 or top500 players, I am always on top 500 but I am sure not everyone can reach it easily. Give it a try if you like card games, this is one of the best ones out there, don't expect magic the gathering or yugioh, this is more like shadow era a little bit. Peace

It's like Lies of Astaroth but FAR, FAR better. You won't be disappointed. Good strategy and tactics will take you far.

Free players can progress pretty quickly, and EK is generous with free gems and many painless ways to earn gems and fire tokens. I really enjoy this game.

Yes, sometimes crashes and bugs occur, but they fix it pretty quickly and just handed out 500 gems with and apology for the 5000 cards plus issue. No one should complain, even if some events are not well thought out there are plenty that are great.
They recently added a Quick Sweep feature to mazes which really saves on time and endless tapping on the phone or iPad!

People keep yapping about how you need gems to play. Yes that's fairly true but they seem to have either failed to notice or forgot that EK hands out gems like candy on Halloween. Ignoring the fact that every week you get 600 gems for doing the weekly events, you still get about 700-800 gems a month for just logging in. Barring that, EK throws around gems like water during their numerous events. And past that, the achievements reward you with gems quite often.

Will buying gems help you out? Sure, more packs/energy/etc is always nice but you'll get enough gems by playing the game to get those just not enough to go crazy with those.

This is one of the rare times I write a review. This game is fun. There are a lot of different things going on which keeps the player busy. There is a good mix of strategy, pvp, events, bonuses, card leveling, personal leveling, exploring, storyline, etc, its really enjoyable. I delete most games within a few minutes, but this one caught me from the beginning. The graphics are not amazing, but I don't care too much. It is straightforward and that's fine. I haven't felt the need to spend real money yet, but we will see.

I normally don't like these kinds if games, but this one is fun and interesting...very addictive. The other reviewers are right about the difficulty in getting 4 and 5 star cards though. I wish they would add an option like on the games Trade Nations and StarGirl where the player can choose for themselves to watch commercials to earn gems or use Tapjoy or something. I'm new to the game though so, maybe it's on there and I just haven't found it yet...

This game Is great for what it is. It's fun and addicting, the only problem is the people that constantly complain but they are fun to talk to :D. Basically this is like any game, it set it's rules and put us in our box. Our job now is to break the limits that were given to us and become number 1 plus have fun. As long as you are patience and relax this will happen. The question is do you have what it takes to become number one?

This game is just gorgeous, it has a unique gameplay and it just can't be beat by any other game out there. By far, my favorite game on iOS. By the way, don't listen to the one star reviews, none of it's true, I've had this game for awhile now and I still love it.

This game is very good everything runs well fast loading speed Lots of achievements to earn there's only 1 problem for me every once in a while it'll say illegal card and freeze my game and every once in a while it will just freeze but other than that great game

Very solid card battle game... Comes down to luck a little too often but I still enjoy it. I haven't spent a dime on this game and have still managed to collect some rare cards. The developers are very interactive and are always trying to improve the game.

This update blew up my account but they fixed it through emails - good customer service. From different glitch experiences I should give 4 stars, but since they made my account whole (and it's a great game) I'll do a 5.

It takes a wile to get into, but this game is a real gem IMO.

It has a nice mix of strategy and collecting. Well worth downloading and checking out.

This game is epic but you should make a event were you have to collect five - 5* -star cards that are consider legend cards. And when obtained all, you awaken a 6 star card! that would be nice to see

Spent all my money to get gold shards, Paid 20 gold shards for a rune, didn't get the rune, in the tavern wen I get three gem boxes it says I win gems but actually them.....

I got this game when I was looking for a good ccg. I wasn't dissapointed. This game is really fun and addicting. And I love that it's not hard to get good characters:)

To be in top you have to pay, but mid-level rankings can be done with paying. Lots of strategies possible because of large variation on cards.

Up to 4x speeds up the compaign progress, like it. Wondering more features in next update.
