I have been using Rover now for four months and have built up a clientele as well as a reputation. I've learned what to do and what not to do along the way, I'm only human! Rover has created a safe alternative for pet parents to use besides boarding or daycare. And a lot of times these places fill up fast and if you work with them they will recommend you to their client who is looking for a place for their pet.
The one thing I've learned that I think is really important for pet sitters and impacts the pets we love and care for, is know your limits. Don't take on more than you can handle just because you want to earn extra money. You'll burn out, the pet will suffer, and you'll forget why you wanted to do this in the first place. And when I talk about limits, those will change based on who you're caring for, if it's a house sitting or multiple drop-ins, or if you have been going 3 weeks straight without time to decompress. This is a great career or a part time job. I love animals, especially dogs, and have been fortunate to have such amazing clients. I do love the ease with which this program works, (the website for the pet parent is a bit harder to navigate and I have offered many times to help them out), but the app is easy. It gives peace of mind to the pet parent and holds the pet sitter accountable.
