Very few times are my expectations far exceeded with things that are blown up and hyped. This game far out does what I thought it would. Played for only about 45 min or so but am blown away. It's GTA console style on my flipping iPhone!!!!! Huh? And it's not watered down. In fact it plays and works and looks like the masterpiece that this game deserves. Rockstar once again sets the bar and sets it into the outer atmosphere. They pave the way for what is the NEW standard for high quality iOS games. The new HD look is awesome! I am on a iPhone 4 non s and it's just beuatiful. It must bring you to tears on a s or a iPad 2. There are lots of buttons but they implement where and how you use them like only pros could pull off. The game brings ALL the fond memory's back and gives the game a little polish that makes it shine better than the PS2 version. Almsot never is a console port game onto ios that is this ambitious work out to make you go....... Holy Sheet!
There is ZERO reson not to buy this NOW. $5! That's insaine for the GTA that changed gaming history for ever and the better. The folks who worked on this show that Rockstar has only the very tip top of talent. So far I am most impressed that it runs so smooth. It looks so great and have not ran into a single bug and it loads fast. Even games like IB2 that are big and cutting edge and ambitious almost always have some bugs and kinks. This is the single most must have so far in App store history.

This game is exactly what it should be a absolutely perfect port of a full open free roam gta to the apple devices we so love anyone who thinks that by downloading this game your iPad iPhone or iPod is just going to magically grow a ps2 controller is also probably trying to bite their ear right now of course this game is gonna have onscreen controls that are different and take some getting used to but after a little practice it works great (I suggest using a combination of the accelerometer and the analog steering both accessible to change under the options in the main menu) also anyone having trouble with crashing needs to get their tongue out of their eyeball and read the description of an app before you buy it 50% of you idiots would probably have no problems if just reboot your device and the other 50% need to turn off all their apps or update to iOS 5.0.1 no update is needed yet except to maybe add cheats or improve auto aim .... All of you complaining I want you to realize I am playing it on an iPhone 4s but if you follow steps properly it even works on a iPhone 3GS I know this cause I followed those steps on my sisters 3GS and guess what absolutely 0 crashes on a 3GS so before you spam a great company and a great app with hate reviews maybe be able to follow a few juvenile directions. GREAT GAME ROCKSTAR ! Fingers crossed for Vice City and San Andreas for the iPhone and upcoming GTA V for the 360 and ps3

I have a 4S, and it runs fine and smooth for me. I was a little concerned that you couldn't effectively play this on such a small screen but it generally works. Just like the original PS2 game, there is some wonkiness on aiming the guns and occasionally you will screw up something because you aren't pressing where you should be on the screen. But that's pretty rare. I have put about an hour or so into the game with no issues. Probably the best part is that all the original car radio tracks are still here, and they are still just as hilarious as you remember them. The game saves your place automatically when you hit the home button, so you can play this in small chunks, and it also still has the original games' save slots so you don't have to lose all your weapons etc. if you fail a mission.

It will take up a fair bit of memory, with a couple of the saved game slots used, I'm over 680 megs on this. If you play it for any significant length of time the back of the 4S will start to get quite warm, and it chews on the battery pretty hard as well. I am thinking you could play maybe 2-3 hours on a full charge, so you do have to think about when/where the next charge is coming before firing this up for any significant amount of time.

I am not a big fan of spending a lot of money on games for the phone, but I think this is amply worth the $5 if you have a 4S and can run it.

It's obvious GTA III in 2011 after 10 years. Vice City in 2012 after 10 years, so that means San Andreas will be out by 2014. But it'll be a challenge because San Andreas is a huge game to get on your 4 inch phone.

And for those of you asking for new stuff to add to the game. Please just shut up and stop acting like stuck up 6 year olds. There making this game as close as they can to the original console. So there not adding or changing much.

As for me, this and vice city are in my Top 10 iPhone Apps. Amazing Graphics that put me in mind of 10 years ago. The only downside is that there is an occasional crash or two that make me lose about 20 minutes worth of progress. But these are rare enough not to spoil the game.

My only warning is don't get this game if you are below an iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4, or iPad 2, cause I've tried on my old iPod Touch 3rd Gen 64gb and it was impossible, too slow, too glitchy, & it would crash after 5 minutes. No matter what I did I couldn't even get to the first mission. However on my iPhone 4S 32gb. It's a dream come true. Absolutely Smooth

Recommend it to anyone whose played this game before on the PS2 or Original Xbox, or whoever is just into screwing around and causing chaos.

The game plays great so far, looks beautiful on this iPhone 5 4-inch retina display. I do not have a single complain except realizing I have a GTA habit of using the character on foot and punching vehicles that pass by and watch them speed off or try to beat me up and I can't do that here. Not a problem there, just saying, would be nice. But if you played this when you were younger, on the PS2 or original Xbox and had fun, it'll bring back memories. I hope there's a chance that they bring LCS and VCS on mobile devices too (I am aware that they weren't all that but it's part of the GTA series and would like to see it happen, or imagine GTA 1 or 2). Yes, I do agree that the buttons are difficult to get a hold of but there are options that let you resize and rearrange them. They did their best with it, otherwise it wouldn't be in the App Store or Google Play for us to enjoy on the go. Just think about it, they also added the option to let you play your music as part of the radio when in a vehicle (by creating a playlist called GTA3) or just play it over the game. Keep it up Rockstar, and thank you.

P.S.: there is a tilt option for driving called accelerometer for those who prefer that.

Now, before I get to my review I just wanted to let you know that I'm a huge GTA fan. I've played all of them from 1 through 5. Each game seems to have so much packed into one game, it's crazy! Now let's get started. Graphics seem to be a big problem with the gaming community (for some reason) but I really don't care about them, but yes the graphics aren't very good. But c'mon, it's a 10 year old game. Did I mention your also playing it on your phone? You really can't judge the graphics knowing that this is a console game and looks just as good on the IOS! The gameplay is pretty smooth, however there are a few lags when you first start up the game. Glitches can be found throughout the map. The story itself is very good, NO it's not immersive and NO, it's not the best story ever. But for a game about robbing and hi jacking cars, you shouldn't expect much out of the story. The open world is very fun! You can go around messing with people or go jumping off cliffs with your car. Or maybe you just wanna cruise around listening to head radio. Whatever you want to do, it's there! It's an incredibly fun game and for it's age it still runs just as good as a console game would!

All you winners out there stop it we don't want to hear it. If you suckas would keep your phone clean stop running apps turn your phone off once in a while guess what ...... Not one of your games or apps would crash funny huh. I'm tired of you people messing up game reviews and app reviews because Y'all don't keep your phones up the game developers can't fix something that is not broke or something your doing wrong. Here's some advice download battery doctor there is a great start. I have had my phones for years and keep the to do things up , and never had a crashes with my games and believe me I have them all many many of them. The ones that all the people complained about and that's the truth! No crashes at all.
