I cancelled my digital subscription when the Times pulled the admittedly horribly clunky iphone app that was around in the early days of the paywall, with no warning and no commitment to bringing a replacement app out. It looked like they were forcing people to go down the iPad route.

I've resubscribed today as I'm now in a position to have bought an iPad and it's on the way. And logging on to d/l the iPad apps in preparation for my machine's arrival I find that there's now a new iphone app, seemingly arrived with no publicity!

And very good it is too - nicely laid out, scrolling and moving around very smoothly, and stories laid out in a clear fashion. It can't be a match for my iPad when it gets here, but as an additional access point to the content for occasions when the iPad isn't available it's an excellent edition to the stable.

Well done Times, eventually! This is so much better than the previous clunky iPhone app, shame it wasn't around on Day 1.

I can't judge the current version in relation to previous updates as I am a new user. But I do like the quality compared with other news apps.

In particular, I like the fact that you can return to it during the day and it remains the same unless you choose to accept the update. In this respect it feels more like a newspaper than a rolling news service which you never feel like you can keep up with.

I also like the fact that one subscription allows access to the iPhone copy and my Kindle copy. I like to read the Kindle version as it is more like the "real" newspaper but it is good to be able to switch to the iPhone when it is more convenient and have the same edition; unlike the Guardian for example where the Kindle is once a day with yesterday's news and doesn't work properly or the iPhone with the rolling news.

A full download that is readable even without Internet access is a plus point too.

I have used The Times app since it's inception and it has evolved into one of the best apps on my smartphone. I am a full subscriber to The Times & The Sunday Times and both loading the app and navigating around the different sections of the newspaper is really easy and allows you to access the news or features you want to read very quickly.

The latest update has made the app even better and more straightforward with all of the sections at the top of the page. The pages load almost instantly and different editions of the newspaper appear automatically which keeps you as up to date with things as you need to be. You can also access old editions of the newspaper if you have missed articles that you wanted to read.

I would thoroughly recommend downloading this app if you have a digital subscription as there really is no need to buy a newspaper again. Great Work!!

I cannot believe the carping rubbish I am reading about this App which I think is brilliant. I subscribe to the Times & Sunday Times and usually read it on my iPad. When away from home (as now) I sometimes read it on the iPhone and everything is there. Perhaps people would prefer to traipse up to their paper shop in the rain and traipse back again to finger their way through a soggy paper paper, get their hands black from newsprint, and then have it littering up the lounge until the wife gets round to throwing it out after the cat relieved itself on it. It is, after all, 2016. Well done Times & Sunday Times.

I am a big fan of The Times and this app is great as I get all my articles on the go. It automatically downloads news so you can read them offline.
The layout is extremely well thought out, much better than the standard news apps which flow the standard list of articles which you'd tap on to read. This app is better as it is laid out in the form of the newspaper, with the date on top. On Sunday it says The Sunday Times. This is fantastic. I use the app on iPod touch but I know the iPad Times app is even better so it is well worth getting. All the articles are there and it has award-winning journalism

The Times went over to a full pay wall model over three months ago. For your money, which is a lot less than getting the paper, you get the full paper content customised for iPad, iPhone and online. You also get videos and audio and some other e-only content.

The whole thing is a beautiful package. I'm not sure why people expect first class content to be free. I think £8.99 a month for my newspaper across all my electronic platforms is good value. No money, no journalists.

I've been using the app for over a year now, and it's definitely improved in that time. It's now a clean but attractive way to quickly access good content, which is no small feat. Moving forward, I think keeping rolling access to a couple of days of news plus the latest ST supplements (i.e. for the week) would be a good move which would make the app a really powerful way to access the Times.

I have been using the Times app almost since it first launched. This version is the most stable and nicest to use. For example when you ask it to update it does not automatically load the latest version of the paper (and so remove the old article that you were about to read) but places a clearly labelled button at the bottom of the page to load the new paper.

I'm not sure if people are commenting on the right app? I appear to have been upgraded to a really fast, modern mobile app. Lots of colour and much more content. On an iPhone 6 the app loads quickly and it looks great. I've started using the mobile app more than the iPad app. The old black and white mobile app looks really shabby in comparison.

Really great look and feel. Have wanted to be able to read the WHOLE paper on my mobile for SO long! Now it looks like I can. Don't understand what all the nay-sayers are moaning about. It is stylish and slick. A progress bar on the right of each article would be a good addition. But well done, Times team!

New app absolutely brilliant. You can find what you want in a heartbeat. The whole thing is really classy. I have an iPhone 6s Plus and the only even better if would be the ability to have a smaller font size so I can see more text on one screen. I look forward to the iPad app getting similar treatment.

Am totally loving the Times app, delivers news in an easily accessible format. Allows for personal preferences to tailor the news to your liking and continuously delivers the most up to date version. Very user friendly. Definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars

Some of the reviews of this version are ridiculous. The old app was dated and horrible. This new one is far superior in every respect. It seems to have the same or more content, it's faster, it has a much more modern design and it works very well.

This is a far bigger improvement from the old app which was terrible to say the least. It has a brilliant layout and the content is excellent. You can now play all the puzzles from the paper on the app and all the sections are easily accessible.

Much improved. Quicker loading. One annoyance is when you tap on a news item to read the detail you can't the return to the previous place you were. You have to scroll all the way down to find where you were. Surely this can be fixed

Pleased with the new updated app. A nice fresh redesign. I also like the updating at set times through the day. Rather than the race to publish first of other sites. A quality app to match the quality journalism. Thank you The Times.

This app is absolutely fine. I can't fault it at all. The layout is smart, the stories are well written and I can't find any issues at all. Don't be put off by reviews please, they have no idea what they are talking about

Extremely overdue update, but (so far at least), a massive improvement. Now designed for larger screened iPhones, and the general layout and navigability are brilliant. Design matches the standard of journalism at last.

The Times has finally updated its app to something befitting the quality of its journalism. It looks great and is easy to use. The new website too follows a similar layout. If anything, get a digital subscription now.

Contrary to some of the other reviews on here I've not had any problem with the app while using it on my iPhone 6. The editions update regularly throughout the day without delay and have never experienced a crash.
