This is the exact same app as previous years. It works great for what I want: ad free live coverage of the Tour de France with Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin calling the final 50km or so.

Regarding the cost, I think it's a bargain. $30, and a years worth of cycling coverage! It includes the Vuelta, Tour of Britain, Tour down Under, Paris-Roubaix, Tour de Suisse, Tour of California, and others. You have to sign up on he nbc sports gold website (no in-app purchase option).

Lots of people are upset about being required to sign up for marketing emails when subscribing... I haven't received any emails yet, but I can't imagine not watching because I'm afraid of some emails from NBC sports.

Just as in previous years, the app isn't terribly polished, but it is functional, and offers the live stream, map, profile, standings, stages, riders, social stream, etc.

Overall, I'm happy. If you want to live stream the Tour, and have access to a bunch of other races, this is the way.

Whatever you do, don’t “upgrade" this app if you use it to stream! Streaming functionality in the latest version has been hampered; when my iPad screen blanks out after five minutes, streaming to my Apple TV stope and I have to start it again in the app. The same happens if I choose to go to another app… Streaming to my Apple TV stops unless I actively continue to interact physically with the app..

After MLB, the Tour de France is my favorite app. It allows me to view the NBC Sports broadcast without interruption, and actually adds more with footage we don’t see on TV. Now that I have cut the cable, it’s more essential than ever.

Not only can you watch, but you can track the riders on a map, or view the upcoming contours of the road. I buy this app every year. July wouldn’t be July without le Tour and the Tour de France App.

First the bad: yes, the Apple TV app is buggy. BUT IT EXISTS. I was able to always watch the live stream by restarting my Apple TV.

The iOS version is great. Yes it's the same as before but it has a ton of great features and for me at least has always worked perfectly to live stream.

But here's the real reason for 5 stars: it's straight-up, nonstop coverage of the event. And there's no BS tie-in with a cable subscription. I don't have cable TV — it's a complete ripoff. But I am happy to pay the annual subscription fee for an app like this that gives me total access to the full coverage of this event. I would buy an app just like this for the Olympics and other events as well... if only I could get it. Greedy cable companies prevent us from realizing the true potential of 21st century technology.

I really don't know what to say, there are no problems with this app. It works great on my phone and Apple TV, has tons of content, the early miles are two great commentators, followed by Phil and Paul for about the last 50k. The price is higher than in the past, but you get a year of cycling races, and truthfully, it's an expensive effort for NBC and a tiny, tiny U.S. audience to support it. There are no spoilers unless you click into standings , or videos, etc. Just click on video replay to watch the day's stage in oblivion. On the privacy issues, welcome to 2016. I use a junk email address, I wasn't asked for a phone number, and I couldn't find the privacy language in the terms of service cited by other reviewers. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm happy.

This app is fantastic and anyone who is complaining about the price has no idea how much time effort and skill is put in to creating something like this. It's really comprehensive, easy to use and works nearly flawlessly. Truly, the bugs are minimal. Every once in a great while it freezes and resets but that is a rarity. Live access to every stage and the ability to rewatch any stage any time? Yeah, that's worth $20. I love that it streams to my Apple TV without a problem so I can watch it on the big screen. Also, at work I can launch the app from my iPad, close the cover and just listen to the audio with my Bluetooth headphones. It's great with Phil and Paul commentating. Bravo to the team behind this. I'll buy it every year to avoid an outrageous cable bill.

This is the third Year I have purchased this app. I know it's expensive to make such a production but I do wish the price were less.
This year I have an Apple Watch and I get notifications on my watch about stage results and when there close to the sprint!!! Very cool addition. Look forward to this each year.

Not sure I like the auto renew subscription and the link to sign up was not in the app but at the developer website, also in the fine print it the renewal price for years to come won't be the same it will be renewed at that years price. I will see it it is worth it this year with the added ability to watch other races as well. I requested to be removed from the auto renew. I want to make sure I like it first.

On the Apple TV there didn't seem to be any way to fast forward or rewind. So I sent a message to NBC Gold support - and received an email telling me "To Fast forward and rewind using the remote for the Apple TV (gen 4) you would need to pause the video and then swipe left or right." Excellent customer support!

It would be nice if NBC didn’t SPOIL the event by prominently displaying the winner of each stage under the “Replay” menu on the iPad. There’s no way to cue up the most recent stage without seeing who won. Kinda takes the fun out of watching the race.

But aside from the spoiler issue on the iPad, the NBC Gold app is a winner! Loving watching the TDF. All smiles in our house.

This is my 3rd year using the TDF app on my IPhone 4S. The app is better than ever. I stream it from the phone to the TV via a cable and the picture is fantastic. Even my wife is impressed with the quality - or at least not complaining about me monopolizing the TV. :). The extra features (maps, profile, rider info) are great. The $5 up tick in the price was hard to swallow but only having basic cable it is the only way I can watch it. At least there are no ads. I'd like to see a smilie app for the Giro d'Italia.

I sit and watch tour coverage on my iPad every morning. I've grown to really enjoy Matt and Robbie's coverage as much, if not more, than Phil and Paul's. The cost, for me, is easy to justify: I get beautiful video, great commenters, maps, course profiles, rider profiles, team profiles and a whole lot more with no ads, all for thirty bucks. Compared to rowing around the internet, looking for patchy video coverage ... no contest. PLUS there are more races to come.

I have the most basic cable package and I'm close to getting rid of that. I use to keep a more expensive cable package for the sole purpose of watching the Tour every year. Thanks to this app, I get to watch the tour where and when I want. It works flawless with Apple TV. It works great on the IPhone or iPad, also.

No commercials every few minutes.

This version was more expensive this year, but still well worth the price.

This app is set up great! Easy to navigate and has tons of info!!
You can look at plan and profile view of each stage, read descriptions of each stage, racers profiles and much more all for free.
For $30 you get unlimited access to viewing the races! Obviously I have not been able to get the use out of my $30 yet but with how nice this app is, I'm will to pay the thirty bucks and take a chance.

You can watch the video all year long! I just finished watching 2014 footage. It is twenty bucks for on demand stage coverage and exclusive clips. No brainer at $1.00 a day. Sure you can stream, but the quality isn't comparable.

This is the third year in a row that I've purchased this app. I love it. It works perfectly on my iPad Air. Glad to not listen to the American race announcers, to my mind they are quite dull

Viewing Vuelta on 6+ with no issues :), especially when Eurostream stops with 30-40 K to go... :(
