Learn to read with speech recognition and Dolch sight words. The app will present a word on a card. Use your voice to read it.
This is flashcards for the 21st century with touch screen displays and speech recognition. Designed with your primary grades elementary student in mind, this handy tool can make learning foundational reading skills fun.
The app presents one word at a time from a set of cards. Use your voice to read the word. If the word is read correctly, another word on a card is presented. If the app does not hear the correct pronunciation, you will get a visual indication that the pronunciation is not correct and you can try the word again. The next card is only displayed if the card is read correctly. Cards are grouped into sets of words arranged by the Dolch sight word list levels (Pre-primer, Primer, 1, 2, 3). Word difficulty will automatically progress to the next higher level as words are correctly pronounced. At any time a different level can be selected by flipping over the card (tap the card corner), and tapping on the level name. The screenshots shown are samples of words from various levels.
Have an older iPad or iPhone or iPod touch? We've tried to make the app work with as many devices as possible that can do speech recognition. The app runs in landscape mode, and each word card fills the screen. There are two important device features that the app will require access to: the microphone (to hear your spoken word), and speech recognition (to understand your spoken word). The app will walk you through a very short setup sequence the very first time you open the app.
Occasional incorrect pronunciations may be recognized due to wrong-word or "sound-a-like" substitutions due to the inherent limitations of speech recognition. Over time, with continued use of speech recognition, errors due to these substitutions may decrease.
No in-app purchases. A one-time purchase provides access to the entire app for all your supported devices.
