Absolutely love this app! Please don't give Nat Geo low ratings if your network can't handle a download of a single issue - seriously people! This app works exactly as promised, with the unbelievable value - $20/year you get print edition in the mail, access to full archive online and on the iPad, PLUS this awesome app with electronic editions, which are just like the print editions, but interactive and remember where you're currently reading. In the last 6 months this has become a routine for my lunch break - read my Nat Geo in full. The latest retina display update is brilliant! The photos are gorgeous, as you would expect from Nat Geo! The news section updates constantly. The Everest blog and news! I swear, if you find a better value for $20 it must be something illegal!

So much value packed in one subscription! - ★★★★★

I expect to pay for content, even if the reader is free so no issues there. It's one issue per month and easy to shut off standby mode to allow for the 15 minutes download, but maybe I am more patient than others and just don't need to "tinker" constantly so no issues there either. Landscape portrait? I have to admit I tried a few times to get it to flip to landscape then realized how many pictures and videos were embedded and understood why. No issues here scrolling to read since you can still flip the page from the bottom. I find it funny how some will complain about having to scroll but somehow miss the fact that in portrait. they would have to flip anyway.

Lovely

After being a subscriber to the print version for a couple of years, I decided not to renew because I realized that I wasn't reading most of the articles (out of laziness, not lack of interest). Close to a year later, I decided to check out the iPad version, and I'm so glad I did! I just re-subscribed yesterday and in 24 hours I've already read all but one article! The photos are absolutely stunning with my new iPad's retina display, and I love being able to view/scroll through the screenshots of the pages-much easier than flipping haphazardly through pages to find something. Also, the videos that accompany the articles are a nice touch.

Awesome

The reviews definitely don't reflect the experience I've had with this app. It runs very smoothly on both my iPad and iPhone and I love having access to my favorite magazine digitally. I like the added content you can get by going digital, too - it's still the same great magazine, true to its original form, and not choked by too much flashy digital content or anything like that, but does include subtle niceties such as time-lapse videos and interactive maps that you couldn't get in the print version.
