I love venmo, it has really become its own verb. "Can I venmo you for this Uber?" Although there are other apps like it, this one does exactly what it is supposed to do for FREE and everyone has it. The few friends I have that didn't have venmo I quickly got them to download, I literally joke that I should be paid by the app for all the free advertising I give it bc I love it so much. So easy to venmo your friends to pay them back after the bar, uber, dinner etc. It is now painless and stress-free to transfer money between friends, landlords, etc. There's even a cute social media type feel to the app by the ability to caption transfers which can be liked or commented on which makes it more fun. Everyone likes to make funny and creative captions for their friends to see in their feed. Transferring the money to my bank is quick and easy, and paying someone only requires a credit card. Stop wasting your time with splitting checks and get this app, you and your social circle will all appreciate it. And it's FREE! Can't beat it.

I love how easy it is to use. Once you set up your account with a debit/credit/bank account you're ready to go! There is no fee for using debit/bank accounts.

NEWS FEED: There is a "news feed" that tells you Person1 sent money to Person2 but doesn't say how much. Don't want to be so public? Change your settings to "private" and only involved parties will see.

WISH IT COULD: Wish the home screen was a giant figure eight that said "pay" on the top and "request" on the bottom rather than the opening screen being a news feed. I don't care that other people are using the App.

Also wish the App could do reoccurring payments (i.e., for roommates paying each other for rent, utilities etc.)

BEWARE: This App is like handing someone cash. If you decide to pay someone sketchy, Venmo isn't going to come save the day and settle this for you. They're just making it possible for you to send money easily and quickly.

I don't know how we lived without Venmo. Life before this app is but a distant blur of inept technological relations. Now we can transfer to our friends at literally the click of a button. The interface is very smooth/user-friendly and it conveniently connects you to Facebook so you can pay to/request from virtually anyone you know. The brilliant minds behind this tool managed to actually make giving money or having to ask for it FUN--through the social media component, users are able to comically engineer any possible reason for requesting (or paying) said funds. Even the privacy portion is well mapped out; users cannot see the actual amount that was transferred between their friends, just the direction the funds are headed and the (often farfetched) reason for the payment.

This app has become an integral part of the way I live my life and interact with others financially. Could never go back!!

I usually don't write reviews, but I had to for this app. This device is really cool to use and is really easy to send and receive money from your friends or whoever. You just have to create a quick profile add your bank account, (which no one gets that information by the way). Only Venmo has access as you authorize it to fund your Venmo account and deliver the funds to the other user. Once you have received the funds you can cash-out from your Venmo account onto your personal banking account. Real simple! One thing I don't understand though is why do I want to make these transactions public so everyone can see? I didn't really understand that concept as it would be almost like me yelling about my deposit or withdraw at the bank teller once my transaction was complete. Lol I just set everything to private on the settings... Other then that, this is a great app and recommend others to use it!

I love this app! I was introduced to it when we were deciding how to transfer money from his account, to mine, for utility money. We were able to successfully transfer the money from his account to my Venmo account that is attached to my bank account. It is private, so no matter how many users I have paying me, or that I am paying, the users bank information is safe, which is extremely important. Also, once you accept the payment, you get the money in about 24 hours. This, in some cases, is an even shorter amount of time than it would take to deposit money at your bank ATM! I was also able to customize my account settings and have confirmations sent to me, via email, for my own personal records. WIthout the hassle of going to the bank, depositing checks or cash, or having to deal with any money wiring, I was able to get the money I needed quickly and in an organized fashion.

Love the simplicity and efficiency of this app! It makes dealing with money with other people SO much easier and even more playful / less heavy than chasing down and coordinating with people to get paid back, and making sure you have exactly enough cash at all times.

These things in particular have become easy as pie:

1) exchanges of funds with friends for shared experiences is a piece of cake - "sure! I'll buy seven tix to the ballet for a group cause everyone can get me their portion in 5 minutes!"

2) fundraising for group gifts

3) getting flow passed around among family who is far away!

Also, it's weirdly fun to browse the newsfeed and see all the random things people swap cash for everyday ... love seeing people being a bit more lighthearted and direct about money ... also like trying to decipher which descriptions are jokes and which are real.

Great app, but they need 1 important fix. They are willing to pay you $1 for every referral you can get to join Venmo. You must get your friend to use a link with your name on it for this to happen. They need to enable this same link to be sent when you go through your contact list in your venmo account so you receive credit. That way I can send a mass invite to all my contacts and still receive a small amount of compensation for those I can get to join your Venmo network. You could ever consider offering $2 to those individuals that reach 10 referrals. That way every referral thereafter we get paid double. And your venmo app will expand extremely fast!

Besides that, this is a must have app. Makes transferring money so easy! Works especially perfect with your roommates since you always have to pay each other for utilities, rent, cable, etc.

Most of these reviews aren't even hitting the point of the app: It's made for small transactions within friend circles or even small business transactions. If you owe someone $5 for gas, boom! Done. Anything bigger should probably be handled directly by a bank. Not saying Venmo can't handle it, but it's not what it's best suited for. Yet. It's new and has potential. It's a shame to see negative comments like "I can't see who I've sent requests to", and "PayPal is so much better". You should probably know who you've sent requests to. Either a) they owe you money; or b) you owe them. PayPal charges for $5 payments. Venmo doesn't. Small amounts of money swapped back and forth make this app so easy and convenient. I'd like to see Venmo make some improvements, and I believe they will. Sherwood better make some moves up there :)

Basically whenever I ask "Fo you have Venmo?" Someone passing by will proclaim "Venmo is the best man". I haven't met a Venmo-convert yet that isn't saying it's one of the best downloads they've ever made. It's easy, free, and extremely convenient. It's made roommate rent/bills paying, office food ordering, major trip organizing, Christmas gift buying for the family, dinner out with friends, concert ticket buying, and a ton of other money related situations a million times easier. I read a review that said 'if you send more than $150, they freeze your account'. NOT TRUE. My half of rent in NYC is $1300 and they've never frozen my or my roommate's account when we switch off check writing each month. My sister just sent me a $450 Venmo and it went through on both ends with no problem. It's a must download for sure!

Gotta say, some of my friends don't care for the fact that you use your bank association to sign in but I personally didn't mind. I know it's always free. It's easy to sign up AND it's easy to send and request money. The transfers to your bank really quickly. The one thing for new users: you have to "cash out" in the dash board for it to transfer the money from Venmo to your account. I also love that I have three bank accounts I can easily switch between for payout pending who I am paying. It was easy at the years end to see who all I paid for what for tax purposes. The one thing Venmo could improve is advertising so my buddies stop asking me to use PayPal...Thanks for making such a brilliant app.

This app is perfect to transfer or receive money from friends or family who do not have the same bank account. When you send money on the bottom right will be an option to make it public,friends only or participant only. This allows it to be private. People can't see how much money you sent or received to someone just the person who you sent it to and vice versa. There is an option to add an extra password for every time you exit the app which is perfect if you misplace your phone. No hidden fees! When you receive money from someone you know it will stay in your venmo account. You have the option to transfer it to your bank account and this can take up to 2 business days. I definitely recommend this app!

I'm not the biggest fan of having an app for everything but this one I am extremely happy with! It makes paying someone back, splitting dinners, taxis/ubers, event costs, vacation expenses, etc so much easier! No more chaos, confusion or resentments about getting reimbursed for "fronting" the money for another individual. It is secure, safe and simple! You don't have to worry about your bank info being released, abused, etc. Anyone can use it easily no matter what your experience is with technology and the many capabilities of your phone. I recommend it to anyone that has ever had to lend, receive or deal with money transactions, which lets be honest is practically everyone

Honestly, it's the easiest way to pay friends, family, and not so friendly family. Regardless of your bank- you can transfer, charge and transact with ease. Easy tracking, simple user interface- it's an all around necessity if you're not someone who just has wads of cash lying around when it's time to figure out how to split the dinner bill. The hardest part about this app is the initial linkage of your cardage (acct no., routing no. [I think], the typical payment info you need for just about any convenience app, and you're good to go!) besides that, charging and paying people seriously could not be any easier. Thanks Venmo, keep on keeping on.

Venmo is great for paying friends back, but I was already pretty reliable at doing that. The real reason I appreciate Venmo is because it makes it much more difficult for people to bail out on paying you back. All throughout high school and college I had a friend that was always short on money and so I would pay for drinks, movie tickets, bar covers, dinner etc. she always promised to pay me back. Another thing she did was always forget (or act like she forgot) to pay me back. It was too nice and passive to remind her, but venmo fixes all of that!!! It also seems to be very safe. Definitely one of my top 10 (maybe 5) favorite apps.

No fees, ever, with bank account. In fact, they pay you! Well, they make 2 minuscule deposits so you can verify your bank account. Once verified, you can have your balance deposited anytime and the money is in your account in a matter of days. With just a couple button taps, I can pay or charge my friends. Makes picking up that extra item for someone so much easier! I don't have to deposit a check and they don't have to have the cash on them already. I've used it in amounts ranging from $1 to $1500. The larger took a couple days to make sure everything cleared, but the rest are in my account next business day.

This is the future of money exchanging. If you link your bank account it is FREE to send or receive money. If you are linking with a card they charge a percentage so the bank account is the way to go. I now can pay my parents for my monthly portion of the cell phone bill in about ten seconds rather than writing a paper check, finding a stamp, and mailing it. Plus I have a record of what I've paid so I don't miss a payment or double pay a month. Friends use this all the time for sending money for things like paying for their half of a meal or paying rent or splitting gas money etc. I absolutely love this app!!!

This application seriously makes college 10 times easier. You really don't need to worry about going out to eat with big groups, ever, or taking out cash for rent and stuff like that.

I wish I invented this app because it's so simple yet so useful.

My parents use it too, which has made payments to and from them much easier and more secure than sending checks in the mail.

Be assured, this application is extremely secure and encrypted, even to the point of in-application fingerprint locking. They also use bank-grade security.

If I was to have only 10 apps on my phone, this would surely be one of them.

For the comment below about not being able to send a large sum of money, I would argue it has more to do with the fact they're using a prepaid card than the platform. I've sent over 2000$USD nary a problem. Venmo is a great platform because, like PayPal, it doesn't matter who you bank with. I love Chase QuickPay as well, but many of my friends haven't got Chase- so it doesn't solve much. Venmo allows you to send funds to anyone regardless of their banking institution, and allows them to withdraw and deposit within a day.
PayPal is great too, but takes 3-5 days. A+ for the ease of Venmo.

I love this app because my friends and I typically go out in large groups. Instead of dealing with the hassle of trying to get businesses to split checks 5+ ways or having a person pay with promises of being paid back (normally months later), Venmo provides a way that even as my card is being charged for the entire amount, all my friends have sent money to my Venmo account to put back in the bank. It's one of the most convenient and helpful apps (especially when we all went traveling together and didn't want to all pay the bank fees for using a credit card in a foreign country).

I have a large family that doesn't live that close together. We are always getting together for holiday's and birthday's where we all chip in. Trying to keep track of who paid you and who still needs to was such a pain and Venmo takes care of that. Not only is it easy to collect money but it's just as nice to pay people. No running to the ATM for cash, no looking for an envelope and stamps, and you don't have to keep the money on hand until you find the person you need to pay.
Now I'm working on my
kids school to use this for any miscellaneous fee's like lunch & field trips.
