"Angels of Byzantium" is a mere glimpse, and for some and introduction into the glorious art of the Byzantine Empire. It features religious icons written in the traditional manner which has been handed down into the twenty first Century by devout and inspired painters who adhered to an ancient lexicon of images and a grammar of forms.
The images in this app are primarily devotional, they are not necessarily decorative, nor are they "Art". They transcend both to capture a metaphysical reality; i.e. The Divine.
Brendan O’Dowd a “Byzantine Iconographer” shares his hand painted art in this app. One can save these icons as wallpaper or just have the exuberance of watching these beautiful religious images.
These icons are devotional and spiritual objects for both Orthodox believers and Roman Catholic alike.
