Take Shoals with you wherever you go! Our mobile app gives you access to: travel information as you journey to or from Portsmouth, NH; keeps you in tune with Shoals news; and provides quick links to field guides, tides and marine weather while you are in the field on Appledore Island! Future enhancements will include a data entry portal, GPS mapping module, and more!
Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML) is a seasonal field station located on 95-acre Appledore Island, dedicated to undergraduate education and research in marine science. Lying six miles offshore from the rugged Maine/New Hampshire coastline, SML is secluded, yet accessible. Only a one-hour boat ride from Portsmouth, NH, Appledore is a natural laboratory and classroom where the rocky intertidal zone, seabird colonies, and the open sea are right outside your door! Programs for the general public are included in each summer’s academic calendar. Shoals Marine Laboratory is a joint partnership between Cornell University and the University of New Hampshire.
