You want to start by downloading ADV recorder, a free app from the googleplay store.

And to record a very basic video go to the app and press the record button in the top right of the screen to confirm you are ready

At this point a green camera button will overlay in the top right of your screen. So prepare your device and then as soon as you press that button it will start recording.

So right now on the left of the screen is the direct screen recording of what you are now seeing through my filming camera.

There's tons of benefits to recording directly because you don't have to worry about lighting, white balance, colour correction or focus which you might have noticed is little offset on my camera.

Next up is the raw MP4 file and I'll use it to demostrate some more features like the notification tray options that allow you to pause the video or draw on your screen to highlight and point out different stuff which I'm going to do with ADV extras settings right now.

Features include a three second countdown before recording starts and different recording engines to enable mid video pausing. You can crank up the video resolution and bitrate to improve performance and quality as well as the video frame rate.

You can even add text and logos to your recordings to create watermarks. But its doesn't end there.

ADV will record in whichever aspect ratio you start the recording, portrait or landscape and it will record device sounds which is useful when recording games.

So there you have the tools to start recording your android device for free without rooting.

Of course that's only half the task. It's up to you edit the video, add some effects and tell a story to the audience that's worth watching. Just like I've done with this video, all thanks to ADV Screen Recorder.
