The FIFA World Cup was first held in 1930, when FIFA decided to stage an international men’s football tournament under the era of FIFA president Jules Rimet who put this idea into place. Qatar are planned as hosts of the 2022 finals, and 2026 will be jointly hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico, which will give Mexico the distinction of being the first country to have hosted games in three finals.
